Thanks for the replies. I'm pretty much doing what you guys are doing.

Side note - I'm SO glad I had this monitor. The movement alarm went off at 2:30 this morning! She's fine but I'm freaked out now. I don't think I'll ever turn that feature off!

ohhhhh yes there is a way to shut it off without the beep.

On your handset, press the "menu" button to rotate until you see those 3 icons on the 2nd row on the right flashing (the swinging ball, the speaking man, and the waves). Then you press the down arrow until you only see the "speaking man" icon on. Press "select", then press exit (the middle power button). That way it won't trigger the motion detector and there is no annoying beeps.

If you don't know what I am talking about, read the menu it may be clearer...

This, however, you can't use the temporary "hold". For me I just turn the volume down if I want to temporarily "mute" it.

Just remember to turn it back on after you put the baby back into the crib at night...

My sister would only turn it off in the nursery. There was never any beeping. Clearly I haven't tried ours yet.

Huh? I just switch it off in the nursery and nothing beeps. Are you sure there isn't a setting you can choose for that?

I usually turn the handset off in my room first then turn off the monitor in his room using my big toe while picking him up.
That's the AM and nap routine.

If he wakes up during the night, I usually don't pick him up so I leave the system on. If I do end up picking him up then I just turn off the nursery monitor and my husband will either sleep through the beeping or get up and turn off the handset.

I don't have that brand- ours is Tommy Tippee, but ours has a switch that turns of just the sensor element. I flip that when I pick LO up.

What's your routine when you have to get your LO out of the crib? Do you turn off the monitor?

If we take her out of the crib w/o turning the whole system off, it sounds the alarm. But if we do turn the system off, the handsets will beep. I'm trying to figure out how to do it without it beeping and waking up my husband in the middle of the night.
