Zoey often falls asleep on the boob at night and will wake up once at 4:30ish to nurse, so she is a pretty good sleeper. We are trying sleep training now ( and nap training, which she definitely needs) and started giving her a bottle instead so she we know she is really eating.

I am having all these mixed feelings-- i like nursing her, the bottle seems to work her up bc she doesnt like it as her last meal, this means i am nursing her one less time a day but not pumping to replace it, etc... She cried for an hour before falling asleep last night. I can't even imagine her crying for 2 minutes and then sleeping!

Eh... Now i'm just rambling....

I usually nurse LO to sleep. She falls asleep fine on her own without the boob in her mouth though!

Prior to sleep training we nursed to sleep on purpose. During and after sleep training, I nursed my son in the living room with more light to top him off before bed and then my husband would take him to his room and put him in his crib and pat and soothe until he fell asleep.

i usually put olive into her crib asleep or very drowsy. if she is wide awake, then i put her in her crib anyway. she typically rolls around playing for a little while, and then starts crying. i let her cry for a while and then go in when her crying escalates. then i nurse her a little bit more and she goes down without a fuss. i think she is the kind of baby that needs to let off a little steam through crying!

it's not an ideal situation -- with charlie we always put him into his crib awake no matter what and that was just so much better. hopefully we'll get there with olive soon.

In the early weeks of BFing (we didn't start until 4 weeks) I would purposely nurse DS to sleep as well and get worried if he wasn't in a deep enough sleep before setting him down! I have always just handed DS off to DH to put him in the crib and would say 'good luck!' if DS' eyes were wide open.

Now we give a bottle before bed and DS is always awake before he goes in his crib. 98% of the time he falls asleep without a peep.

I read somewhere that if LO falls asleep nursing, you should 'not-so-gently' transfer them but there's no need to totally wake them up.

It varies from night to night- some nights when we finish nursing he is asleep, others drowsy, and nights like tonight he is wide awake. I just play some music, and stay nearby until he falls asleep. If he cries I pat his chest until he calms, but let him stay in his crib unless he is inconsolable- which is rare. I haven't worried too much about schedules and training.

Also my husband puts him to bed some nights instead- I may nurse him a little earlier and then my husband gives him a small bottle to "top him off" before bed. This worked great last week when my IL's were in town, we got a nice late date night, and didn't have to be home before bedtime. My MIL had no trouble getting him to sleep.

I have to wake DD up & burp her or she'll get a tummy ache so she's always goes down drowsy and somewhat awake. It was frustrating at first because we'd go nurse->fall asleep->burp->awake & have to start the cycle again like 6, 7, 8 times but now she'll do 2 or 3 cycles (which she normally does anyways before she's full) and then I swaddle her & lay her in her sleeper (which starts in the living room & then goes up when we go up to bed). She sleeps a good 5-6 hrs before waking for a nighttime feeding.

Prior to sleep-training, I purposefully nursed her to sleep. When she fell asleep, I would wait until she was in a deep enough sleep to unlatch herself from my boob and then try to put her down and pray she wouldn't wake up.

But after we sleep-trained, she would still want to fall asleep on the boob so if I saw that she was dozing off, I would break her latch and wake her up. Then I would continue feeding. But whatever happened, she would be awake/drowsy when I put her in her crib.

What do you do when LO falls asleep while nursing? Do you put baby down and hope they don't wake up or do you wake them up a little so they are drowsy but awake....?

Are you concerned about consistency if you falls asleep nursing one night and then doesn't the next night and has cry it outer be rocked?

It's the start of sleep and nap training...!
