I WOH with 3 (infant, toddler, preK). I'm considered FT but my in-office hours have been reduced so I get in late, leave early, telemcommute sometimes. I am not the breadwinner and our current plan is that I stop working once my eldest is no longer in a fee-based school, likely 1st grade.

I only have 2, but we're contemplating/leaning towards having a third. If we do, I'll be WOH. Like @ValentineMommy: , I'm the breadwinner and insurance is through me for everybody.

@lilyann: My SIL has three kids and both parents WOH. Im going to need to ask for a lot of advice.

The biggest thing for us is that both of our employers are family friendly. We work a standard schedule 8-5 or 7:30-4:30 and aren't really expected much overtime or travel. We work close to daycare and the elementary school is close to home. My commute is the furthest about 20-30 minutes.

So far since we've had three, I've done: SAH full-time, WAH part-time, and now WOH part-time and school part time that equals kids in daycare full time. So...if you have any specific questions, hit me up and I'll try to let you know what my experience has been.

I stay at home but will likely return part time once our youngest is in school full time. For us, I SAH because it is what we wanted for our family - we both strongly prefer to have one parent home with the kids and as DH's career is more lucrative than mine, it made sense for me to stay home. I'd always planned on being a SAHM whilst my kids were little anyway so it wasn't a sacrifice on my part. I had nearly ten years of working in my field before having children, so it's not like I haven't used my degrees and been able to support myself.

We are fortunate in that DH's salary is more than sufficient to support our family, so I don't do any additional work to supplement his income. He works very long hours, meaning I solo parent most days from wake up time to bedtime, and honestly, with three kids in four years, that is about all my plate can hold right now!

I stay at home. We are fortunate not to need my salary, and I have always felt like I wouldn't be able to do my job well enough while parenting well (it required long hours and late nights/travel on short notice) to excel at my job, advance my career, and continue to be paid well.

I'm 32 weeks with #3, and am for the first time starting to feel like I'd really like to be working again - I'm just not sure in what capacity I'll do it, or when.

#3 & #4 are still baking but I'll continue to WOH/WAH. We have awesome parental leave possibilities here though and I'll definitely take advantage of those. But I would still generate some income and honestly I am not cut out to be a SAHM. I need to work for my own sanity.

I'm on maternity leave with #3. I will return to work full time. Luckily our oldest is in kindergarten so that helps with daycare costs. I make more than DH but even still he makes more than what daycare will cost us and we want to keep his career going.

#3 won't be here until early next year, but I plan on going back to work full time, Out of home.
It will be really expensive for the first 6 months as we will have 3 in full time daycare. That sept my oldest will go to full day kindergarten, so we will only have to pay 2 daycare spots, and 1 after school care spot.
I'll still be bringing in enough money to make it worth while, but I hope at the time we can reassess the situation. Ideally, the evening position at my work would come available and I could work only evenings, saving us all daycare costs. ( but only be working part time.)

@2littlepumpkins: I actually left my job after LO1 was born, for his medical reasons. We were able to afford it temporarily and I planned to go back but the company had lay offs and I wasn't able. DH found a better job so we decided to go for #2 and we're lucky to be able to afford it. If I were working I doubt we would have gone for a third. It is so much easier having me at home. I honestly don't know how FT WOH families do it. Money will probably be tight until all are in public school and/or I return to work but we are very fortunate that DH is doing well at work and we never had to tap into our emergency fund.

I barely work.
I put in a few hours here and there as needed but I'm home 95% of the time. Ours are very close together and daycare here would be 6k per month for full time care. I don't bring that much home after taxes.
I've been debating working more at home with a nanny but am really struggling to make that change.
My husband career is very flexible and we've had an awesome summer with spontaneity that we would lose if I were to go back to work.
At this point we don't need my salary so I'm leaving towards staying home until my youngest is in preschool.

@2littlepumpkins: I used to be a teacher until my second was born. My state is one of the worst for teacher pay in the country, so having two in daycare full time would be like 80% of my paycheck. When I was working and my son was a baby, my mom watched him, but my two are only 20 months apart and I didn't want her to have them both full-time.

After my second was born, I didn't go back to teaching, but instead started seriously pursuing my photography business. I schedule sessions when my husband is home or have my parents watch the boys once or twice a week. The majority of my work that isn't shooting is done after bedtime.

So yes, there is no way I could work full-time teaching and afford childcare for 3. I was getting burnt out with teaching and needed a change, but also knew we eventually wanted 3 kids, so I decided on a career change that gave me more flexibility. (My husband is also a teacher sooo I couldn't be a SAHM long-term)

@2littlepumpkins: this is what i am interested in hearing. for us, I would still generate some income even with 3 in childcare, but we would also need a new vehicle that could have 3 carseats, and I would be back to two drop-offs with 2 almost in grade school and one needing childcare. If I stayed at home, I would have no income, but still not paying for childcare at all.

@autumnlove: @HLK208: @skipra: @lilteacherbee: If you feel comfortable answering... do your reasons for staying at home have to do with child care costs/logistics of having three versus one or two? Finances and me having just started working six months ago are honestly what is preventing us from trying for a third in a year or two.
