It's good that you have a flexible husband and family close by, because that's the only solution I've found. Hand baby over; go to bed. It feels awfully psychologically -- especially as a SAHM, where you sometimes feel baby is your "job" and you can't handle it competently -- but remember that Daddy and the grandparents love baby too, and they love YOU and want to be there for you when necessary. If you're already trying so many preventive and healing measures, seems like you're doing everything you can on your end and there's nothing more but to accept help.

I've had migraines since at least high school and it took me until I was married to really figure out a lot about them. Once I started FAM and tracking my cycle, I realized my migraines were somewhat hormone-related (I'm more likely to get a migraine around ovulation than any other time of the month). Because I charted my temperatures and fertile signs, I also began charting my migraines. I wrote down foods or activities I thought might have been triggers—not enough water, not enough sleep, too much coffee, red onions, changes in air pressure, etc. and it helped me tremendously. I adjusted some of my eating habits (less caffeine, avoiding MSG and red onions which seem to be big triggers for me) and was just careful to get more sleep and drink more water around ovulation. It's not fool proof, and I still get migraines. They're never fun, but they're definitely less fun with a toddler.

When I got pregnant, I had one really bad migraine in the first few weeks and another one about three weeks after Elisha was born, probably as my body was adjusting to all the crazy hormones.

I have yet to find a medication that works. The last medicine I was on was supposed to work if I took it when I started to get my aura, but it only worked once or twice. Eventually, I'll stop being lazy and go back to the doctor, especially since I am armed with all the information I've been keeping about them.

I had no migraines/headaches for the 1st Trimester but now that I'm entering the 2nd, I've been having headaches for a week straight! My doctor prescribed me Fioricet and it works, but I hope I won't need to depend on it for too long. Coffee helps too but I try to limit my intake.

Erinpye- I've done that too. My hubby and I had the test done (he has crohns) and it's helped a lot!

Maybe I should clearify. I really appreciate all the advice, but I was looking more for what you ladies do when you get migraines and you have to watch your babies and deal with it.

I'm still open to migraine advice... but I do feel like I've been through it all. I've tried pretty much every med and treatment (chiropractor, nuerofeedback, acupuncture, botox, massage, biofeedback, magnesium, etc.) and I'm currently looking into surgery.

I'm pretty much just accepting the fact that for now they're here and I have to live with it. But when I have one for a week straight, it's not so easy to ask my mom or hubby to stay home from work to help me. So it's either take care of the baby with a migraine, or take care of the baby all doped up on meds :(

Fortunately, mine have decreased now that I'm pregnant, but I so feel your pain and I'm sorry you're suffering :( One thing I did a couple of years ago was take an IgG and IgA immune response blood test with a naturopath to see how my body reacted to over 125 different foods. I found out that while they aren't allergies, I have some pretty big, delayed reactions to quite a few foods. Apparently those foods can build up in your system and help trigger a migraine, so I cut back on those foods and have since seen a HUGE decrease in migraines. Might be worth a shot.

Baby Bear- I've had migraines since 3rd grade so I've tried all sorts of meds... nothing really does it for me either. Hope you're feeling better too!

Mrs. Bee- I've actually tried acupuncture a couple of times. (Not just a couple of times. I went for a long period of time, it didn't work so I stopped, and then tried it again later on in life). I LOVED it because it was sooooo relaxing.... but unfortunately didn't help the migraines so I couldn't afford to keep it up :(

Lozza- I'm not nursing, and I'm actually back on topamax. I think if I was nursing I wouldn't be having these issues, but it just didn't work for me. Even with the topamax some triggers just can't be stopped, like the weather and my period. And it just doesn't seem to be working like it did last time. The weight loss def didn't happen this time!

Geekinheels- That sucks that you got migrains during pregnancy! They say they either increase, decrease, or stay the same. You're one of the unlucky ones! I tried fioricet during pregnancy too and it gave me a crazy fast heart rate b/c of the caffeine.

I never had migraines before getting pregnant, but experienced them regularly with both pregnancies — yes, they were a pregnancy symptom!

My OB actually prescribed me Fioricet (Butalbital, Acetaminophen and Caffeine) to help me cope with the migraines during pregnancy, and while they helped, there were some days when I could hardly get out of bed and had to lie there in the dark because every light would bother me. Luckily, on days like this I was able to call my mother or SIL to come help out with Claire.

Now that I've given birth, I haven't gotten a migraine yet but if I do, I want to look into acupuncture.

Are you nursing?
Pre-pregnancy, I was on Topomax for migraines, and it worked wonders for me, but it's not recommend for nursing mothers. Boo :( I'll probably go back on it once we fully wean. Luckily, pregnancy hormones seemed to mostly keep the migraines at bay when I was preggers, and while I've had a few since DS was born, I haven't had as many as I normally would...

I suffered from migraines for years and no meds helped. The only thing that finally helped was acupuncture. I looked like the pinhead from Hellraiser, but after a couple of sessions I was totally cured. acupuncture isn't painful. I actually like it.

Years later they still come back once in awhile, but nowhere near what they used to be. I highly, highly recommend acupuncture... I'm a believer!

I am not a mom yet, but I suffer from migraines as well. I actually woke up with one yesterday morning and got sick from it. All I could do was moan, cry, and not move. Mr. Bear felt terrible that he had to leave for work and couldn't take care of me.

I am not sure how we will deal with it when the time comes. I guess it's something I will have to talk to a doctor about as well. I tried Imitrex in the past, but had a horrible reaction to it. It made me weary about trying other migraine medications. Excedrin does not cut it for me anymore.

I hope you can find a solution to this! Please keep me updated!

How do you do it?

I've had migraines my whole life, and unfortunately they didn't go away after the baby came :( I'm lucky enough to have a hubby with a flexible job and parents and in laws close by, but still it's pretty hard when I'm getting them more often now. I'm a SAHM and I hate having to take care of my baby girl while I'm out of it on meds or in tons of pain.
