Wow. This kind of puts in perspective a lot of the typical complaints people have about ILs. I'm so sorry you guys have to go through this :(

@prettylizy: @creativemomma15: I would think its optional too, I guess I've never really asked though. We didn't do a wedding announcement because we didn't want her to see it. Its a shame the little ways we have to adjust our lives just so we don't have to deal with her. For the last two years she has left us alone & I hope that it stays that way. It's crazy how the way you live your life changes once you want to be come parents.
@chopsuey119: I would get a restraining order if I felt it was necessary! There is no way I would ever let anything happen to my family.

Wow! I would try to not put it in the paper... Our paper prints the marriage license, court stuff, etc but in the hospital they let you decide if it gets put in the paper or not. We just said no. I think they et it optional for safety situations and what not. Hopefully yours does too!

@Sugar.Biscuit: First off, she is crazy pants, I agree, I'd be nervous about LO having anything to do with her.

Second, how can they just publish your information in the paper without asking you?? That seems crazy to me!

@jennylynn: I think its a matter of public record. When we bought our marriage certificate it was automatically in the news paper. Same with divorces, property purchases, court records...It all gets put in our paper.

Wow, she sounds scary! I'd be very cautious with future LO's. I wouldn't even put a birth announcement in the paper! Sorry you have to deal with that!

DH grew up in a split family home & has a mean mom. She could be clinically crazy. While we were dating I had never met her. They were talking & then they weren't & then they were & now they aren't. She called my job & pretended to be an employee to get my phone number then would call me to get information about her son. She was so mean to DH, "when you go to jail I hope they *bleep* you in the *bleep." You can fill in the blanks. Needless to say she was not invited to the wedding, she didn't even know we were getting married.

I formally met her after our honeymoon, she caught on right away that we had married when she saw our wedding rings. SHE WAS PISSED & said so many mean things at the cafe (everyone was looking at us) then she walked out. A few months later I was shopping with my mom & she saw me. My heart sank! She kept asking why she wasn't invited to the wedding. I wasn't about to get involved so I kept telling her to ask her son. She got mad said, "You guys are never going to last, he is nothing but a POS, he will never change, good luck but it won't last" I told her thanks for the well wishes (which caught her off guard) and excused myself.

The lady is crazy, she made an appointment with our hair dresser & asked her for our wedding photos... We haven't talked to her for almost two years, THANK GOD. DH wants nothing to do with her and wants our future children to know nothing about her until they are old enough to understand. The whole point of this rant was to discuss whether or not you have been in a situation similar to this. I worry about what will happen when she sees a birth announcement in the paper, will she try and pull some antics to get at our children? It wouldn't surprise me if she did.
