I have invisible in-laws too. I sometimes exchange e-mails with his mom, but that's the extent of things.

I get along with my inlaws and DH's extended family except my MIL. She's very, very attached to DH's ex-girlfriend to the point of using a "daughter" designation on facebook (which both parties agree to). This relationship has been a source of trouble for me and her developing a relationship in general. She likes accumulating "daughters" since she didn't have any of her own. The presence of DH's ex-girlfriend early on caused lots of tension. I knew early on who she wanted to marry my husband. When I came along, I was simply the wrong person. It's been that way even when we got engaged and married. I've learned to just accept that it's the way it is with her. I feel like I can't get close to her because she'll pit me against the ex-girlfriend or use something I said against me.

Like @meganceleste - my in-laws are invisible. They live in Florida (12 hours away by car) and they don't really get involved with much. They'll be fun to visit when the baby comes, though because they live in Pensacola Beach. :) I'm hoping his Mom will want to come up and help us out for a few weeks after the baby comes.

My in-laws are awesome but *sometimes* my MIL can be a little overbearing. But I'm good and taking everything she says with a grain of salt...Or, my hubs and I will laugh about it to ourselves later.

I really love my in-laws. There was a segment on the radio the other morning with a similar discussion and I was completely horrified by some of the stories. I feel really lucky.

My in-laws live in the states while we are here in Tokyo, so I don't really have to see them often. My father-in-law and his wife are both very easy going and fun and I wouldn't mind seeing them more often. My MIL, on the other hand, I'm definitely glad she doesn't live near us. She came for a two week visit during my second trimester. It was sooo stressful having her around, I actually lost weight. She's a nice person but very set in her ways and having her around for 24 hours for 2 weeks was just too much.

My in-laws are the opposite of Monster-In-Laws, they're INVISIBLE in-laws! My husband's Mom & Stepdad live in Michigan and are pretty hands off in our lives and his Dad & Stepmom live in Florida and although my husband talks to his dad often, we don't see them often at all. I wish they were more involved and I hope once we have kids they will be!

I'm not sure my MIL is a MONSTER-in-law, but she certainly drives me crazy sometimes! She seems kind of desperate for her son and me to start making babies, even though we're not ready yet. As soon as we got engaged, she started badgering me for grandchildren (even though she already has ONE from my husband's sister). I think the thing that bothers me the most is that she badgers ME about it and keeps trying to pressure me to make babies for her. She has this dream that all her grandchildren will be close in age, and so my husband and I are putting a crimp in those plans since her one grandchild is just getting older and older while we continue to not have babies! She drives me nuts!

Oh my gosh! A&E has a new series called Monster-in-laws and it is crazy! Seeing the two episodes that were posted on hulu yesterday makes me so very grateful for the supporting in-laws that I have.
Do you have monster-in-laws?
How have your in-laws changed as you've ttc'd/gotten pregnant?
