We're huge montessori people, and we used a crib for a while. My daughter just hated it, otherwise I'd have used it for longer. She slept in a bassinet until 6 months, then a crib until 8, then a floorbed since then. But only because it worked well for her - I wouldn't have pushed it just to be really hard core about my montessori stuff.

We follow Montessori & have a floor bed for her but at 5.5m she's in a small crib in our room. We were going to put her bed on the floor in our room but the dogs would go snuggle with her at night, lol.

We used a crib until 19 months then switched to a floor bed. Before that it was just not practical for us.

We follow many Montessori principles but do not use a floor bed.

We are hardcore Montessori, but used a crib with our second child. I don't think a floor bed from birth is an absolute necessity and wasn't practical in our last house... We figure we're still doing pretty well anyway!

I don't think you have to apply every single principle in a particular methodology. We never did a floor bed but we do plenty of Montessori style activities in our home.

DS has been going to a Montessori preschool since he turned 2 and he is now 3 months shy of 3. We only just transitioned him out of his crib to a bed this weekend (he never once tried to climb out). It's not a floor bed, but it is very low and we don't have a rail on it.

By success, what do you mean, exactly?

I realize this may be an oxymoron, but does anyone follow the Montessori philosophies, yet also use a crib? Have you found success with the method regardless?
