We have 2 Montessori schools. 1: $125 registration fee or $75 for returning students. $788 a month for full time care 8:00 am - 5:30 pm 5 days a week. You must be 3 and fully potty trained. This is on par with the on base daycare (the major center) if you add the preschool (yes, you pay more for the daycare to do preschool). The toddler program starts at 2 years old and is $420 a month for 5 days a week. There are cheaper options for less days per week. This is the program we start in August.

Right now he is at a child care that is limitted in time 7:00 -4:30 pm ONLY. And it really doesn't have much of a curriculum as he gets older. Right now he is thriving there but the hours are attrocious for us. But it is only $450 a month. He will go there in the afternoon next year.

There is another Montessori school that just opened. You have to be 2 1/2 and potty trained. If your child has an accident, you have to come and change them. You pay all year for the 10 months of instruction so it looks cheaper but is on par.

Our local Montessori schools can start at 18 months! While we aren't planning on sending DS that early, I thought that was really interesting.

@T.H.O.U.: Yea, it's 20 minutes in the opposite direction which means it will be an almost hr commute in the morning. :( No way DH would agree to that and we would have to wake her up even earlier. :( Unless he got a job near it! ;)

@regberadaisy: I was really happy to see the price of ours is really comparable but like you, its out of our way. I may consider it though later on. It would suck though because ours starts at age 3, so if we have another LO, we would be doing drop offs at two places.

Damn. I just looked and our local one is cheaper by $175 per month than what I'm paying for our glorified babysitter.

And about $400 cheaper than the other academic center I really liked near my work.

Montessori is on par with JCC and the academic preschool program here (actually cheaper than academic per hour, since the academic is only 3 half says and Montessori is 9-3:30).

A co-worker of mine is sending his son to a montessori part time (only 8-12) starting in August. His son is 3.
He is paying what we paid for full time for an infant (7am-6pm). Plus, they had a $3500 deposit they had to pay that does NOT go towards tuition.

The montessori school we were looking at was 6,000 for the year for half days. It requires five days a week though.
If we sent her to a church preschool, then it was more like 200 or so a month.
If we wanted to send her to another private, no religious ties, school it was in between (ie Waldorf or Reggio Emilia). It was about 350 a month for two days a week but 9-2, so she actually would have spent more hours at that school two days a week than the Montessori school. I guess per hour it was significantly less than the Montessori.

It depends on the kind of the traditional daycare you are considering. Ours is a NAEYC certified traditional daycare in town vs in the suburbs so our daycare is in line with the Montessori daycares in the same area.

Our only Montessori school around here starts when they are potty trained around age 3. The price is $710/month and our 3 year old room at our center is around the same price.

Just wondering what you all have found as far as cost:
