That's a long, tough road that you're on. I hope you won't get to the point where you have to choose between donor sperm/embryo and adoption to start a family.</p> <p>Our history sounds somewhat similar. DH has no sperm in his ejaculate because he's a carrier for the CF gene and that resulted in no vas deferens. He had to do the TESA surgery to remove sperm to be used with IFV/ICSI. Until he actually had the surgery, we didn't know if his body produced sperm at all. I was so worried that he would go through that and we wouldn't be able to move forward.</p> <p>Before DH's procedure, the urologist was able to do some hormonal tests that indicated a higher chance that the surgery would be successful.</p> <p>I'm not sure if any of that is relevant to your situation... Regardless, I know how dark that place of uncertainty can be, and I wish I could give you a big hug! I'm so, so hopeful that the surgery will be successful so you can proceed. But I just wanted to point out that there is one other alternative besides donor sperm. (I had looked into this a few years back if IVF didn't work for us). There are donor embryos, too. It's like adopting, but you get to carry the baby and deliver. So just in case you didn't know of this, wanted to let you know. I believe it is much cheaper, too. Because you don't have to go through all the injections, IVF retrieval. Just a transfer. But I bet the surgery will be a success and everything will work out great! I've been trying not to let myself get too depressed about this. After all, we though DH was going to need this surgery before when he was not able to ejaculate. </p> <p>Unfortunately I've been reading up in success rates and its close to a 50/50 shot that the surgery will actually work for DH's non-obstructive azospermia. It sounds like Micro-TESE will give us the best chance. I'm hoping the urologist will call mr back tomorrow to discuss it.</p> <p>I've also been thinking about what we'll do if this doesn't work. My mother thinks we should go straight to donor sperm, but that thought makes me sad. I really wanted to have DH's child, not just any man's child. </p> <p>I'd love the experience of being pregnant and I know that DH would love any child. But I don't know if I could do it. I'd almost rather adopt a baby in need of a family than make one with a stranger.
