Sorel out n about, sperrys listed above (both fit about the same!) very durable, comfy.
I pretty much live in both.

I’m not sure if they go that large but my daughter loved her keen boots. They are just above the ankle and indestructible

@Mrs. Carrot: do you have a Lidl nearby? This is random, but we went to a new Lidle near us today and they had kids’ snow boots that are SO lightweight for only $14.99. Lighter than the bogs my DD has. These are the boys’ version, but they had a girls bin with pink and aqua and blue.

@Mrs. Tiger: I'll check those out! I got a pair of their sneakers and couldn't get past how unstructured they were so I returned them but the high tops might work!

@Anagram: Thanks for the suggestions! My kiddo lives in Stride Rite Phibians in the summer so that's good to know that they have winter stuff too, and I love Merrell!

@Mrs. Carrot: for kids, look at the stride rite Made2play like or Merrill waterproof sneaker boots. Or bogs (we have some for DD1, but I still don’t think they are **ahhhmaaaazing** like I was led to believe. They are maybe 1 step above the clunkiest snow boots).

For adults, I have the sperry duck boots in all gray (got deeply discounted), and I wear them with inserts from my podiatrist, and those are great for both rain and snow (snow in mid-Atlantic areas—the toe isn’t insulated so they aren’t especially warm, just waterproof). On a super cold day, I would double up on thick, wool socks or something, but I usually just wear them for school pickup and drop off and don’t need anything for that (we walk every day but it’s only a few blocks each way). They also make sherry boots for kids, so that might be an option!

Mine look kinda like this:

I recently got the wool/water resistant Allbirds high tops and really like them! Not quite boots but close, and light/walkable. I also have wide ankles/calves and can't do most tall boots.

I love these fleece lined pants for getting outside when it's cold. They also break the wind really well. So warm, and also so comfy!! I also use cuddl duds a lot under existing pants. Sorry, no boot recommendations, since all ours are more for snow. (Though I would still look into Bean Boots. They make several levels of warmth, so you could pick which works best for you.)

@Mrs. Carrot: I believe we have similar weather here in Germany and my kids have these boots this year and I was super surprised with how light they are. The kids love them too:

I'm in VA, so we don't typically get very cold here so wanted to ask separately from the snow boot posts. Wondering if folks have recommendations for good boots (for me and my 7 year old girl) that would work well for walking and kid-friendly hiking. Something warm, good traction but not too heavy like typical snow boots. For me the caveat also is that I have obnoxiously wide ankles and calves so I need something that laces (though I welcome suggestions for ankle-high slip-ons that I can get in and out of for quick outings).

Also would love recommendations for warm-weather pants for kiddo and me. This will be our first winter being outside as much as possible so this is a new terrain for us. Prefer cotton-based items, which seem hard to find, Unfortunately all the compression-type material I keep seeing doesn't work well with our allergy-prone skin.
