I'm definitely more nervous with this 2nd pregnancy. I remember thinking I never wanted to feel the deep chill again, like I was dying or something, after my csec. I had yucky morning sickness so I'm not looking forward to that.

I was more nervous the second time by far! Because I knew what to expect. The fact that I started watching random birth videos one night on YouTube didn't help and I don't recommend that to anyone!! But in the end it was all good, better than the first time in many ways!!!

Yes and no-

I am more CONFIDENT this time around that I can do it. The baby can only get so big before my water breaks and he has to come out. I wasn't convinced that C would be able to fit coming out, they had me scared of a 10 pound baby from the ultrasounds- he was just tall.

I'm scared of how fast it can be- last time was a run away train, I couldn't wrap my mind around it until it was over. But it can only last for so long.

I'm scared of getting someone to watch our son until my parents or IL's can arrive, thankfully our neighbors have already offered to help out however we need. I love them!

I'm scared of recovery- that was NOT fun, especially now with a toddler to chase. We are setting up for family to stay with us during that time.

I'm nervous about having to do the NICU again, especially with a kid at home that I hate to leave. I can't imagine being torn between my two boys and having to choose where to be. Last time turned out to be a very positive experience, but I would love to not have to go "visit" my baby.

Really, the pain is the least of my worries this time around, and while I'm not looking forward to labor, I am excited to meet our boy!

I am and I'm not. I had a wonderful birth experience with DD, complete with an amazing epidural that made birth an enjoyable experience. I didn't feel anything but was able to push well with the use of a mirror, and didn't feel any of the stitches for my second degree tear (a major fear of mine before going into labour). Recovery was easy peasy and it was just a pleasant experience all around.

I am petrified it won't be that easy again - can I really get that lucky twice?!? If I knew my birth experience would be the same, I'd have no fear at all but since no two births are the same.... Who knows?!

I'm really nervous for how hard pushing was for me. The pressure was much more than I imagined it could be. I was puking and crying and shaking and screaming. I mean, I know it's "labor" but trying to get her out was the worst part. I'm also nervous for tearing again.

@HLK208: I was induced and completely agree about the Pitocin. It was intense pain. I fear next time I will need to be induced again except I know what is coming pain-wise. Yikes.

I wasn't worried because I'm pretty sure adrenaline helped me get through the pain with my first so I was confident I could do it again. I was induced with my second so the surprise was taken out of it (and replaced with pitocin haha). It was bad. Just bad. I didn't handle the pitocin well. However, I know I'll get an epi right away if I have to do pitocin again so I'm not nervous this time around.

Yes! I do remember the pain and when I am feeling uncomfortable now, I just think of how much worse the pain gets. I went in the first time thinking 'oh how bad could it be?'. Now this time I know how bad it could be! Maybe that's a good thing? I don't know.

On the one hand, my first birth experience was empowering, because I was dreading giving birth and didn't think I could do it, but I did it! On the other hand, now I know how it really is, so I dread giving birth again (not pregnant now)! I think what I try to focus on is that surely the second baby won't take 3 hours to push out or cause as bad of tearing, so it'll be a better experience! Right? :)

@Navy_Mommy: I had a rare precipitous birth with my first and nearly ruptured my cervix--I was super close to having an emergency c-section, and ended up with an episiotomy and DS being vacuum delivered.

I had a nightmare last night my water broke but I couldn't push him out and the nurses and doctors were all getting mad at me and threatening me with a c-section because it had been 24 hours since my water broke!

@sorrycharlie: I can COMPLETELY relate. We had very similar births. My ob says I'll probably deliver this one faster, and I am so scared I'm going to start laboring at work or somewhere crazy before I can get to the hospital...and with DS in tow I have tons of anxiety surrounding that! I've contemplated being induced, but I'd really just rather not.

@farmwifegina I'll look into the book! Getting over the mental block is the hardest part, I think.

@FarmWifeGina: I was pretty glad it was so fast and then over! Especially since they let me have an epidural and then labor down for a little bit...it totally helped my mood, LOL. pushing was actually enjoyable because I wasn't as stressed/in pain/ etc. I wouldn't mind doing that again if I knew I'd get an epi before pushing. For some reason I just have zerrrroooo interest in feeling the birth. lol. I felt enough in the weeks afterward!

@sorrycharlie: Just so you know, I am super jealous of people who have labors like that! I'd take the furious part of fast and furious if it meant I got to pushing faster. But then, the longest I've ever pushed (after 24+ hours of labor all 3 times), was 8 minutes, soooo, yeah... Easiest, most "fun" part for me. But having drawn-out labors probably makes me a better doula in the long run, so I guess it's ok. ;)

I am not pregnant yet, but I already know that I will be that situation. With DD, I was confident and excited about birth. I had a very long, intense labor - I don't remember much pain (even though I went med free), but I was EXHAUSTED and pushed for more than 4 hours. Because I know what to expect next time (although everyone tells me it will be easier the second time), I think I will be much more scared!

I'm not pregnant but super nervous. My labor was so unexpected, fast and furious with #1 that I am terrified I'll end up delivering at home or in the car! No offense to anyone who did that, it's just NOT my thing...I want an epidural stat. I barely got one last time! (literally, full dilated and trying not to bear down)

@matador84: Yes, because I knew what I was in for. I don't like pain and discomfort, lol. But I had hopes that it would be faster and easier the second time around. It was and it wasn't.
I was even more nervous about my third since my hopes for a less painful second birth hadn't really panned out. To the point where I even dreaded it and had to do some mental work to feel even halfway prepared. I didn't feel ready to go through it again until I was several days past my EDD, lol. Thankfully, my head was in a better place than I thought and I was able to power through by staying in the moment and focusing on one thing at a time and it was most definitely my easiest, most comfortable birth. Not painless by any means, but I don't feel traumatized by the memory of the pain. Now, obviously, part of this was due to it being my third birth, but staying in the moment and not frealing out about how much worse it was going to get and voicing how I was feeling to my support team made a huge difference for my mentality through labor.

You'll be fine. You're strong and you did once, you can certainly do it again. :) If you feel like you might need a little extra help preparing mentally for this birth, I highly recommend the book 'Birthing From Within' by Pam England. Very, very good.
