I had a medela single electric and the hand pump. I much preferred the hand pump and got way more output from it!

@LovelyPlum: I have the Medela hand pump. @Pumuckl: I'm glad to hear it's not just me then!@regberadaisy: Yes, that's kind of what it is! Oh well, at least it's not just me. Thanks!

@Jennibenni: I found with DD2 that I could get a output quicker and more by hand expressing. It's weird, it's like the pump flange just was not expressing the right part of my boob, that I could reach with my hands. LOL

@Jennibenni: It's the same for me. My right breast needs a higher suction than my left and so with my manual that is easy to do.

Which manual do you have? I had a Medela double electric pump but loved my Lansinoh hand pump much better than my Medela hand pump. It was almost as effective as the electric.

@Happygal: One isn't more comfortable than the other, the difference is just how much actual milk I'm getting. It's like a slow dribble vs. a steady stream.

Is it a comfort level thing, or do they feel about the same? I could get a good amount with a manual and felt it was more comfortable than an electric, but it wasn't nearly as efficient.

@Foodnerd81: I always do both sides, I think I remember you saying that on another thread so I haven't bothered with one side at a time. They suction feels fine I guess, but I don't get much milk and I can go back with the manual right after and get more.

@Jennibenni: does the suction feel right? And are you pumping both sides or just one? With my insurance PIS if I only pump one side the suction isn't good unless I put my finger or a piece of tape over the little plug thingy.

I have never used a manual but that reminds me I should get it out and sanitize it.

I don't pump regularly and haven't pumped much at all in the last couple of months, but I've been pumping every day to store milk for an upcoming trip, and I've found I get noticeably more milk with my manual pump than the electric one.

It's an insurance Medela PIS. It has new membranes and I popped off the faceplate and cleaned underneath. I didn't notice this to be the case when I used to pump more, but I also had an abundant early-days supply.

Is it possible I just respond better to the manual pump or do you think something is not right with the Electric one?
