If I were you, I'd call and talk about getting Diclegis. It's the same ingredients you are taking now (so no reason to feel guilty at all!), but in an extended release format, which makes it more effective for most. I was able to survive a short time on the OTC versions both pregnancies, then had to switch to Diclegis both times when it failed to help enough. Eventually I had to add more drugs as things ramped up, but try the Diclegis first. Diclegis is the only thing pregnancy category A (the safest).

Insurance sometimes makes you jump through hoops for Diclegis due to the expense. If so, post again; I have tips for that.

I would call. First pregnancy, I was on Zofran the first trimester and still threw up daily. Second pregnancy wasn't as bad, but I still threw up several times a week, so I got zofran and only took it when I was having a bad day nausea-wise. You and baby need nutrition, and taking a med now and then is better than not getting those needed nutrients. That was my philosophy. You can always talk to your OB and see what they suggest. It's not like you have to agree to take something if you decided against it, but it doesn't hurt to get their opinion.

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. It's so, so, so miserable.

@Cole: eh, I'm in the camp of why suffer if you don't have to. I have severe nausea with my pregnancies and felt totally incapacitated without meds even though I was not throwing up all the time or losing weight. So even though maybe technically I didn't *need* anti nausea drugs to be alive (in terms of dehydration), I needed them to survive mentally. I couldn't keep feeling like I had the stomach flu for months and still work and care for a toddler and be a functioning human.

So with my second pregnancy, I said fuck it and I told the doctor I wanted to hit the nausea with all guns blazing--so soon I was on Zofran, dyclegis, and metro-something or other (reglan) that helped that awful stomach emptying problem. All 3 did different things for me and I needed all 3.

I would call. Even with all the drugs, I was pretty miserable but at least I could function in my miserable state.

I would call if the B6 + unisom is not helping. I think Diclegis isn't a "prescription drug" in the same way Zofran is, so I wouldn't hesitate taking it if it helps.

I had hyperemesis gravidarum with my first pregnancy, this pregnancy is not as bad but I'm trying to decide if I need to ask for more help or if I'm still within the range of normal. I'm not vomiting daily, only a handful of times a week but the nausea and food aversions are really bad plus I can only eat a little bit at a time because it takes so long for my stomach to empty that I feel like I ate a Thanksgiving feast even three hours later. I'm 8.5 weeks and down 9 pounds which is about 6% of my body weight (10% is the benchmark for hg.) I am already taking b6 and unisom so anything I add will be a prescription and I hate doing that in the first trimester if I don't have to. I will definitely bring it up with my doctor, I'm just trying to decide if I should tough it out until my 10 week appointment or call.
