@legallyheidi: Psssh, seriously?! You do not look like you're having twins! You look exactly as I would expect to look at your size. When you're short, there's only so many places baby can go ;)

I hear ya! I have a lovely coworker who keeps asking me how the twins are... But she knows I'm just having one so is she just trying to be funny because its getting annoying!!! Don't they know not to mess with a pregnant lady!!!! Just let it slide, you've got bigger and better things to think about.

a friend's mother commented yesterday on my facebook page "are you sure you're not having twins? that is a good sized baby!"

I'm 37 1/2 weeks pregnant lady! Of course I feel as big as a house (which one of my bosses said to me last week..."how are you feeling? You must be as big as a house!") though most people (bless my husbands heart, he's been wonderful) are pretty tasteful with comments and simply ask "how are you feeling" every. freakin'. time. they see me.

I generally think a lot of people lack a sense of tact and politeness. Not sure why conversing with a pregnant woman makes them lose that filter but man, I wish I could slap people who make comments like that :||

That's so frustrating!

The worst part is after you have the baby and see someone gorgeously pregnant and you can't figure out what to say or how to say it because you know how hard it was... and how little the pregnant mama is able to appreciate her pregnant beauty,

@grizz: Ugh, I feel for you. I had the world's worst acne for the first two trimesters. Like terrible, painful, cystic acne like nothing I've ever experienced before. I cried about it so many times. I didn't even want to go out in public.

I'm sorry that woman was such an idiot to you. People don't realize how insecure these things can make you and that it is not their place to say a thing about it.

Not sure how far along you are, but my face has completely cleared up in the third tri. I've been left with some nasty hyperpigmentation on both my cheeks, but at least I can cover that up, and I plan to use a spot-lightening treatment after baby is born. I hope yours clears up for you as well...I know how difficult it can be :(

Ugh, I'm sorry this happened to you :(

I had a few women at work make repeated comments to me (including one who made me cry in the middle of the office after making a "joke" about my pregnancy acne). I finally called them on their shit and have not heard a peep out of them since.

I think being direct with people is really helpful in these situations.

My MIL made a comment like this. We were out to dinner and she told me my booty was filling out nicely. When I gave her a weird look she just said, "What? it's a compliment! Women pay good money to have their butts get like that!" And then went on and on, trying to smooth it over. She has no filter, though. today she asked if I've lost my mucous plug, and I just asked her if she felt gross saying the word mucous plug, lol.

@irene: Ahh, I forgot one! I had cheese pizza face for a few weeks at the beginning of my second trimester. I went to buy my usual makeup at the makeup counter where I've shopped forever. The lady who waited on me INSISTED I switch to the acne coverage formula, and when I told her I couldn't use it because I was pregnant, she said "Seriously?! Most women have beautiful glowing skin during pregnancy! You must've gotten just very unlucky because you're broken out everywhere." I didn't say anything, but when we were leaving she followed it up with "Make sure you come in for a complete makeover after the baby is born! We'll get that skin fixed!"

Yep. I bawled in the parking lot while my angry husband talked to the manager...I never would have said anything! They were so shocked she said that to me they gave me a $50 giftcard to the department store I bought my makeup at, so I guess that helped. lol.

@Bookworm: I can't recall having mean comments about my body while I was pregnant and sorry you had to go through that! Maybe I just had a bad memory but people were very nice. My face broke out like a cheese pizza back then and I was so glad no one made a comment about that except me.

Actually my very good girl friends did say, wow your belly is so big (corresponding to how many weeks I was at that time), but that didn't really bother me. It was OK because they were good friends.

@MsLipGloss: hahaha! babylicious!

Hugs. I've been struggling big time with this too. I tend to be a self conscious person anyway, so it didn't help that the week I announced my pregnancy, a coworker yelled across the room at the Christmas potluck (with about 200 people present) "Dang, being pregnant has made your boobs HUGE!!!" That's just one of the many, many comments I've gotten. The only two where I've actually responded have been when someone grabbed a can of soup out of my hand, telling me if I ate it I'd blow up even more...and the other time being when someone told me I was really starting to waddle. I straight up called them out on being rude.

99% of the time, I just awkwardly smile and go the other direction. Sigh. I need to get some gumption and say something to these people!

@Anagram: There were a couple of people in my office that always commented on me wearing heels during my pregnancy (they were more amazed at first, and then were sometimes *betting* outloud when I would stop). I wore heels until the day I delivered, and of course I have worn them every day since I returned from maternity leave. But here's what they don't get . . . I *always* wear heels to the office - it's just part of how I *dress* for work.

I just started getting my first comments this week (I'm 21 weeks today and I have definitely "popped"), but so far I haven't been offended. Although one lady made me laugh a lot (in my head).

There's a chinese (as in, from China) Math teacher at my school who in a 2 minute conversation managed to point out that my body has "changed a lot" (yeah. I think that's supposed to happen), that although my due date is after the other teacher who is pregnant I am bigger (yup. she was thinner than me before pregnancy, too, so it makes sense) and she "complimented" me that AT LEAST I had the good sense to wear flats (she'd come over behind my desk to inspect my shoes), unlike the other pregnant lady, who was wearing heels that day. So she managed to judge both of us in 30 seconds. Quite a feat!

It was actually really hilarious.

I also had the 23 year old Tech guy exclaim, "Wow, you're really poppin' out now". But I don't mind him, because he always offers to bring me snacks when he has to go buy tech equipment, which is awesome because I always take him up on it, and now I get to blame him for my fatness.

I didn't really get comments from women, but that might be down to living in NYC and people generally keeping to themselves. I'm sure if I were living in the Midwest, where I grew up, people would be more open with the comments.

However, once when I was like, 7 months pregnant, I was leaving the office and one of the security guys yelled across the lobby, "WHOA! Is it twins?!" Nope, not twins. I completely ignored him and then I had to leave before I started crying right then and there. Damn hormones.

I blamed it on the hormones during pregnancy (but truth is, i'm just blunt, perhaps to a fault?) but I called people out on it ALL THE TIME. unless it was like, my grandmother. then i just let sleeping dogs lie.

but really - if someone said something i felt was rude, I'd say "well that's not very nice!" or, "geez, rude!" in a somewhat nice manner, and they'd always be startled that I said something. To those co-workers, I'd probably say "hey now! I didn't start talking about your body, did I?" and let them be ashamed. If they didn't catch on..I'd probably just ask why it was okay to talk about my body now that I was pregnant, lol.

Aww, I'm sorry they are getting to you. I imagine one reason they think it's ok, is that they probably aren't meaning to put you down. It sounds like when you hear it, you hear that you are unattractive. I doubt they think that way at all. The people I know that make comments about pregnant women looooooove pregnancy. They love looking and seeing how bodies are different. To them, wide hips and bigger boobs are beautiful. Even if you don't think so.

And you probably are looking gorgeous, btw. :)

Yep - I got a lot of comments about how tiny my bump was and how big my boobs were . . . they really were annoying--and inappropriate!--and I did what I could to deal with tham at the time. Please don't let the comments make you feel self-conscious or less glowy and beautiful!

And yanno, I did respond to one person who commented on my boobs with a very Beyonce *I don't think you're ready for this jelly . . . my body's too babylicious for ya* :P
