<description>&#60;p&#62;You would want to be assessed by a podiatrist if you're in the USA. A support pad called a metatarsal pad is usually needed to reduce symptoms and heal, along with wide footwear that is stiff and thick at the front to minimize flexing the ball of the foot. It's a relatively common issue I see in clients at least a few times a week, but can take a while to heal if you're not careful with footwear choices especially (nothing squeezing the forefoot, no tapered toe boxes, etc.)&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;ETA: you may be able to buy an off the shelf support with a metatarsal pad (try a good running shoe store for selection) and change his shoes before seeing someone about it if funds are tight!
