@ShootingStar: I just signed myself up for the coupons again using my work address and married name (the original was home address and maiden name). I might see if my sister will get me some too. So far that seems to be the best thing! I think I've only bought formula once or twice without one of those checks.

We had some luck at CVS with stacking coupons and their rewards. Also our grocery store has an amazing clearance section and we’d routinely find formula on clearance there too.

We found the best price was the target sale you mentioned, plus we signed up for enfamil coupons which I think were $5 off per can. Even Costco couldn’t beat that price.

@Rocker2014: this is the grocery store I’m referring to! Mine has diapers/formula at pretty much the same price as Target, with better coupon stacking options. And yes! Once you start buying, you’ll get coupons at the checkout every time. Mine literally just stopped recently, and I haven’t bought formula in probably 9 months!

I agree with Target, but we actually had our best luck with Stop and Shop - every time I bought my Enfamil AR there a $7ish coupon would come with it, even when I used the coupon from the last transaction on the current one. Even accounting for the grocery store price price inflation, the coupons made my actual purchase price less than anywhere else.

Sounds weird, but I've bought formula off of ebay. Unopened, unexpired, no problems and saved some money. Worth looking in to.

I bought formula for my 1st for roughly 3-4 months. I didn't like that Amazon fluctuates. I almost always buy at Target using coupons, cartwheels, their sales plus gift card deals. Now they also offer discounts with subscriptions. I also get 5% off with my red card.

BJs (like Costco) always had the best prices, plus they take coupons. I also got a groupon for 1 year of membership for $15, and they have those often.

@2PeasinaPod: Thanks! I didn't think of costco. I don't have a membership, but I could ask my mom and SIL to keep an eye out for it and have them get it when it's there. The prices online for there are pretty good!

@PinkElephant: I'm not sure if grocery stores would work out for formula. The prices there seem higher than the ones at target or buy buy baby, and they seem to have way fewer options. I think it'd have to be a pretty major sale for it to end up being cheaper. I was pretty shocked the first time I looked there. Even the drugstore seems cheaper than the grocery store.

@DesertDreams88: I've seen some on Facebook marketplace, but I'm not sure I want to buy formula from strangers... And half the time they're selling the freebie cans and that just isn't right! lol

@macintosh: Good to know! Walgreens is one of the places I've gotten some for a decent price. We don't go there often because it's sort of out of the way (only for prescriptions because CVS couldn't get my thyroid medication), but I'll keep an eye out there! They're one of the places that has the best variety. I haven't been able to find the smaller ready to feed bottles anywhere but there.

I used to get descent coupons from my local Walgreens, believe it or not. Once I bought Enfamil once the coupons they print at the end of the sale were frequently for $6 or $7 off a canister.

@MaryM: None of my kids have been exclusively formula fed for extended periods of time, so I was never motivated enough to really stalk sales...but I'd check your grocery store. Ours often (surprisingly) ends up having the best value on baby products like diapers because they'll stack their own "club card" coupon with manufacturer coupons with sales/store giftcard promos. I regularly get diapers at 50% off and while I expect the savings would be not quite so good on formula, I bet you can do something similar.

ETA: I don't mean my first sentence as anything unkind, so I hope it wasn't taken that way - I only mean that I my advice about grocery stores may not pan out, because I never bought formula in bulk. I did have to get the ungodly expensive (and tiny!) cans of Neosure for a good period of time, and had a hard enough time finding it at any price some weeks! :)

It's so hit or miss, but sometimes you can get Gentelease at Costco. Right now, it looks like only their Enfamil's infant formula is the only product they have, but keep an eye out as they sometimes get the Gentelease.

@MaryM: @SweetiePie: Haha, I was just gonna say that my local mom group was probably the best source. It seems like people are always looking to offload formula for one reason or another - free samples, switching to another kind of formula, weaning, etc. Worst case, there were always tons of people with coupons who weren't planning to use them.

So, what have you found to be the most economical way to buy formula?

I'm not interested in switching brands because DS has dealt with reflux and we tried several already. We're on Enfamil gentlease.

I'm disappointed there isn't a very good option for subscribe and save on amazon. I've been buying the box of refills for the plastic tub and using checks when I have them toward that. And I stock up when Target has the "Buy $X of baby stuff, get $X gift card" offers.

Are there other ways you've found to save on formula?

I like to keep some ready to eat on hand for emergencies, but will only buy it with checks so we don't spend much on that. (It's usually about $6 for 6, so I use the $5 coupons on it)
