I have also found that turning lo1 to Forward facing had not changed the puking. It does mean that he can sit behind the driver's seat and therefore not reach lo2 to scratch him.... Depending on the car and the trip he is either RF or FF. One car we use often he had to be RF in.

@birdofafeather: that's a good reminder about Dramamine. She seems unfazed by vomiting so there's no indication that it's about to happen, but I have gotten better about keeping the car stocked. It funny...once I was out of the infant stage I got out of the habit of making sure I was well-prepared for messes. Our first episode during a long road trip I was SO woefully unprepared. And once I forgot to "restock" our car and it happened on the way to look at a house an hour away...had to stop at babies r us for a new outfit and wipes 😑 You'd think I'd learn!!

@Littlebit7: turning our puker didn't change anything. so don't let that one sway you if you want to keep her FFing longer. we have the clek and although DH thinks it's annoying to clean, i've see other seats and know ours is easier than others because it's more bare bones.

i know your pain about puke and long car rides. we have towels on hand and now that she's 4.5, she knows when it's coming and we keep extra trash bags or pottete plus potty bags (absorbency at the botthom) for her to puke into. i forget what age you can start, but dramamine for kids has helped a bunch!

We like our diono radian and I have no problem sitting by it at all. I've never tried to spot clean vomit but I have removed the whole cover and washed it after a pee incident and it went well. You could order replacement straps to have on hand from their website and I think you would be good to go (since you can't submerge them). I have always thought about the Clek but can't get over the inability to actually wash it even though people seem to be happy with spot cleaning on their fabric

@bluestriped bee: I haven't entirely been able to pin point it. It never happens for shorter driver (30-40 min) and almost always on longer ones. At first I thought it was the iPad. Nope. Then eating before travel. Well, maybe, but it has still happened even after cutting out the common culprits before a drive. Last time it happened she had just woken up from a car nap, drank some water, and threw up. 5 min from home too. Argh.
So I don't know. Cleaning the nextfit isn't my idea of a good time but I can't let that be the reason why I turn her around before I'd like to, you know?

@Littlebit7: Do you know why she is puking? Is she getting car sick? DS gets car sick and the dr recommended not feeding them before getting in the car for long trips. We started feeding them in the car and skipped the milk. Also, lots of crackers and snacks to settle his stomach. I've had to switch the car seat out a few times because of vomit and luckily I haven't had him throw up since. On long trips, I like to sit back there to see if he is getting car sick. I've done long trips solo and luckily cutting out the milk before getting the car has helped.

We can fit a smaller adult (average sized woman or smaller) between the Chicco Nextfit and our other carseat.

Thanks! Part of our problem is that the puking occurs on trips longer than an hour (typically road trips heading down to the mid Atlantic.). So she has to sit in vom for several hours.
I had heard good things about cleks fabric, but not any experience about pukers in those seats...so thanks!! Helpful!

We have a puker and a clek floo.... it's not idea but I can sit between the seats or more often behind the drivers side with the seats next to each other. We also live in the city and do not drive often.

I have started tucking a swaddle blanket under DS1's chin when I think he might puke. He's 2.5 and has gotten pretty good at puking onto the blanket or even a bag if I help a little.

The cover doesn't come off the seat, but it wipes down really well. I have found if I clean it right away it's not bad. We have two of these seats and the fabric is different on them. The one that has smooth fabric is easier to clean then the other one.

We currently have a Chicco nextfit zip for LO who is 2.5. We have another baby arriving in December who will go into our Nuna pipa. I'm looking for a more narrow car seat for the 2.5 year old that will enable us to get an adult in the backseat as well. It MUST be easy to clean; LO is a puker. Hopefully that changes if and when we flip her around (I'm going to try to make it until baby bro arrives or until her 3rd birthday.
Anyway, so it has to be narrow and easy to clean. The nextfit will go to my parents
We rarely drive (live in a major city). And a new car seat is cheaper than getting a new SUV with a third row.
Thoughts?
