I liked the zip up sleepers-- so much easier that fumbling with snaps. Other than that, I can't think of much newborn stuff that I actually used that I got as a gift. We never used a swing, pack and play, swaddles, nursing pillow or pacis.

We had to go out and buy infant Tylenol and Gripe Water. Also we needed smaller diapers than what we had.

If you're looking for stuff to put on your registry, I'd put nice toys and books for later-- a nice set of blocks, wooden rattles, plush toys. I think people like giving toys especially when they don't already have kids because it's easy to pick out and fun. I think I got just about every toy and book I had on my registry.

We used the Carter's side snap white shirts exclusively for the newborn -3 mo stage since it was easier on the umbilical cord and easier for changing. I had to go out and buy more
of those.

We couldn't live without the nursing pillow (we had the My Brest Friend), lanolin, baby ktan and sleepers. LO was in sleepers for 90% of the time until she was 6 weeks and her head wasn't so floppy. We only had 3 sleepers so I had to run out and buy a few more in NB. Unfortunately, a lot of her NB outfits only got worn once.

My Boppy was my absolute life-saver. I've used it for at least a two hours a day every day since we brought it home. And 0-3 month outfits. My little guy wasn't so little, and didn't fit into NB sizes after a week or two.

He also refused to be swaddled, but loves sleep sacks, so I wish we'd had more right off the bat.

Some things we had to go out and buy bc we needed them: corona ointment for diaper rash, gripe water for gas, white noise machine. Also a ton of Breastfeeding stuff like lanolin, soothing gel pads, breast pads, and a bigger nursing bra.

Boppy, wubbanub, rock n' play, floor activity mat, wipe warmer(we had to run out and buy one since LO screamed whenever the cold wipes touched her), the moms on call swaddle blanket, and the number one most used items are the flannel receiving blankets we received a ton of. We use them as burp clothes, as blankets, as a cushion in the rock n' play, etc. they are handy to leave one in every room because you never know when you'll need one!
