@knittylady: It scared me too - I thought someone had back to back twin pregnancies and it made me scared to death even though ours are IVF twins and we don't plan to have any more kids, so this really couldn't happen to me. But it's still horrifying to imagine four little ones under 2!

I really would not want my twins to have separate birthdays. I don't know why, but I just don't. I have already told my husband if we are close to midnight when they are being born that I'm going to refuse to push until after midnight so they will both have the same birthday.

@MamaMoose: Yes! My boys were born 1 minute apart. I would have hated to have that difference spread by two separate birthdays.

@sunshineandsushi: I agree I feel like twins having different birthdays would really create birth order issues. I'd rather share my birthday than always have to celebrate it one day after we already celebrated my sister. Plus, she gets her license a day earlier, she can drink legally a day earlier, etc. I wouldn't like it.

@Mae: The cutoff for my son's school is December 31, as I understand it, you'd have to be turning 5 in the calendar year to begin kindy.

I would be okay with the kids being in different grades. I think there's a lot of pressure on parents to make a decision regarding keeping them together or separating them (in a class), so this might take the pressure off since the decision is made for you. I am sure though, that the school/board of ed would make a special exception either way.

This was a fear of mine for my twins. My due date was Jan. 29 and they came on Jan. 8 so I didn't have to worry about it. BUT, I did tell my OB that they had to be born on the same day, since there was the potential of them being born right around midnight.

I never liked the idea of my twins having a different birthday. I feel that it would perpetuate the birth order difference in a bad way for them.

@Mae: our school in New York has a December 31 cutoff!

As a twin, I would not want a different birthday let alone a different birth year!

@looch: A lot of people mentioned this in comments and I was so surprised. School cut-offs are generally somewhere between July and October, not depending on what year you are born. Also I'm sure regardless of any circumstance the school would let them attend together, it is obviously a special circumstance.

I think this is super cool! It's be awesome to have a different birthday than your twin.

I think this is actually kind of cool! It gives you the distinction of being twins but with different birthdays, in different years!

I wonder how it will affect school...could it be that one kid is a grade behind, depending on cut off dates?

Is it bad that I'd just want to celebrate on the same day? The one twin was only seconds after midnight! I'd pick the 31st and celebrate both birthdays then! It's a pretty cool story though!

I wouldn't want my twins born in a different year. Especially since we are telling them they were born at the same time lol.

Good Morning America reported two familues thus happened to. One set of twins were born 3 minutes apart the other 8 minutes. Pretty cool to be a twin and not share a bday.
