@snowjewelz: yeah I would check just to be sure, although the actual dose of fenugreek you get from the tea is fairly small, compared to taking the capsules

@regberadaisy: oh that's awesome your supply is better this time! That def makes me hopeful! I've heard good things about MMP and also goats rue for insufficient glandular tissue but I didn't take either when I was BFing my LO.

@Espion: I have heard about it stimulating labor but have also heard of some providers being ok with women pumping or hand expressing at the very end to help with supply.

@Seattlemom: it is best to talk to your ob about that. *some* think that stimulation might induce a early labor. I asked my Ob about it and she didn't think it had any validity but of course it doesn't hurt to try. But to try after 36/37 weeks when we've reached "full term" just to be safe. I also started taking more milk plus tablets towards the end.

My supply this time is so much better! I actually have a mini freezer stash! but I don't know if the MMP helped or if it's just because it's my second so my glands have grown??

@regberadaisy: That would be awesome! I'll wall you.

@Seattlemom: Nipple stimulation (pumping) toward the end of pregnancy can be used to stimulate labor. It may not have the effect of increasing supply, but getting contractions going!

@snowjewelz: the tea has fenugreek in it and along with not being good for people with thyroid issues it can lower your blood sugar so not good for women with diabetes.

@Mrs. Twine: @Espion: I had low milk supply as well and am already thinking ahead for next baby...do either you know anything about pumping at the end of pregnancy to encourage a better supply?

@Mrs. Twine: Awesome, thank you! I used a SNS briefly with E, but ultimately had to use an 8F feeding tube over my finger with a syringe attached for awhile. He was one stubborn little redhead. I'll have to dig it out and buy new tubing. I used Domperidone as well, and that let us basically comfort nurse for 7 months. I also pumped like crazy, but I didn't really start until he was around 5 or 6 weeks old (believing that "babies are more efficient than my pump", not true in our case!) So I'm going to pump much earlier to work in supply if this kid has the least hint of the same issues.

I'm actually excited to try (is that weird, lol!) but I'm not going to be as devastated if it works out the same as E.

@Espion: This book is invaluable: http://www.makingmoremilk.com/

The website has so much useful information, as well. I suspect that I have undiagnosed IGT, but a combination of domperidone and More Milk Plus tincture (as well as avoiding foods that can negatively affect supply such as sage) worked well enough that I didn't have to supplement with Lorelei more than about one bottle's worth. If you do end up supplementing, I would recommend a SNS that allows you to do so at breast. They are a pain in the butt, but it means more stimulation telling your body that it needs to make more.

@Mrs. Twine: Ooo! You can pass that information on to me. :) I had supply issues with E, and the only thing any of the LCs could tell me is that it was probably "due to stress". But E also didn't latch very well, had a very poor suck reflex, and likely has an undiagnosed lip/tongue tie.

Should be fine to just drink it. If you suspect supply issues, it might be worth considering jumping straight to a More Milk capsule or tincture (I found the alcohol-based tincture to work the best for me, personally; but you can read some reviews and see what you think), or the More Milk Plus blend depending on what you think might be going on with your supply. The Plus formulation is great for women who have confirmed or suspected issues with insufficient glandular tissue (basically less of the breast tissue involved in milk production). Good luck! I struggled with supply issues both times, and I'd be happy to pass on more of what I learned if you think it might be useful at all.

If you have any underlying thyroid issues, fenugreek can actually work against you. I'm not saying you NEED to consult a doctor, but if the tea isn't doing anything for you, I'd talk with a doctor. I loved milk tea!! :)
