Dd isn't quite a toddler but since she's into everything ill answer.. The playpen folds out to like a fence which fences in the living room. I either sit on the couch and do makeup or I am in the bathroom where she can see me (apartment) and she is in that safe area.

It's tough! I get DD to eat her breakfast while I do part of my morning routine. Then I get her to come with me and "participate" in the rest of it. We don't really have a choice but to do it this way, since I have to get ready, get DD to daycare, and get myself to work in a pretty short time period. If I were more of a morning person, I would wake up before DD and get ready then, but I just can't bring myself to do it that way.

I wake up an hour before lo does so I can shower, get ready, have my coffee and check the news. It sucked once she started waking up a bit earlier but I just adjusted my wake up time accordingly because I dont like starting my day in a frenzy!

For me I get ready before LO wakes.... Around 6:30-ish am (he wakes at 7-ish)... Does no one do that??

If he wakes earlier than that and made a cry, I would ignore him as long as possible and quickly shower change and all. Some reason sometimes he will go back to sleep. Now I don't know what will happen when we eventually move him out of the crib!

After X dropped his morning nap, I had him shower with me. He loves splashing in the water and playing with his bath toys while I shower. I put off doing make up or much with my hair until after he went down for his nap at noon. I'm able to get dressed while he plays. He's 22 months now, and at this point half the time he'll happily hang out in the bathroom playing with Duplos, cars, or other toys while I shower. Other times he'll want to get in the shower with me and for now, that's fine.

I put him in his walker in the bathroom doorway while I shower. He's mystified by the process of me putting my makeup on so he'll sit across from me (I do it sitting on the floor) and play with any old makeup I hand him. He loves mirrors and brushes and sponges. He's also very interested in the blow dryer so he sits on my lap and stares while I blow dry. Luckily straightening my hair doesn't take very long- I have a basket of toys in our bedroom and those usually keep him occupied while I straighten! It's definitely a juggling act!

I put her in her cot with some books, toys, and water. When I put her in, I put her in sitting down (rather than laying her down, which signifies sleepy time) and I tell her momma is going to go shower. I take the monitor in the bathroom with me so I can hear what she's doing and very rarely does she fuss whilst I'm showering and getting ready. I usually get a good 20 minutes to get ready for my day this way. LO is 14 months old.

Until DS was about 2, I would bring him in the bathroom with me with a few toys and just let him play while I showered and got ready. Sometimes he would scream and cry the whole time I was in the shower, but mostly he would play. After the age of 2 though, I trusted him enough to let him run around the house while I was in the bathroom. I keep the bathroom door open so he comes and goes as he pleases. Usually I turn on some of his music and he'll be pretty content to play by himself until I'm done. FWIW, DS is not the type of kid who does dangerous things like jump off of the couch or eat crayons or open kitchen cabinets or whatever while I'm not looking.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: I usually close the doors to everything and let her go to town under my sink. She loves my electric toothbrush. I also make sure I talk to her before I do anything and let her know that mommy has to put her down so I can do "x". I started with little things (like putting my clothes on) and eventually working up to longer tasks. It took some time for her to understand that I would be right back, but she gets it now.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: I think everyone should have at least one laid-back. It's funny-- Ellie was way more high needs emotionally, but she was just not into anything. Not ever. She just wanted to be held all the time. I find Lorelei, who will rarely tolerate being worn for long unless we are doing something super-cool, to be much more exhausting from a safety standpoint at least. She has no fear and will just tear around looking for trouble. That said, she is extremely well-natured and not really defiant. I think she'll maybe be the easier one once she learns more about physical safety!

@Rainbow Sprinkles: We just have a cheap step stool from Ikea right now, and it's working fairly well. He's fallen off a couple times, just by stepping off of it, but it's only 2 steps, so it's not too bad. I've really had to let him get involved in the past month because he wants to learn so bad. So now it takes me like twice as long, but I've gotten into the habit of making it work. It was an adjustment, but once I started to be patient and get him involved, he's been so much easier in the mornings. We do have the occasional "you can't ever put me down" morning, but it's not every day anymore.

I will wear her sometimes if she just wants to be close, do some things in her room which is Lorelei-proof (the rest of the house is not, so much), shower with her if she is being clingy (which she likes), and find tasks she can assist with. It can be hard having a busy one-- Ellie was SO much more laid-back.
