@abbydabbydoodlebug: yes, I EBF. Night time routine was ( and is) nurse in te living room- calm and quietish but lights are on, so she stays awake; go to her room, diaper change and pjs, put on sleep sack, read The Going to Bed Book, sounds machine on, lights all the way dimmed, sing twinkle twinkle once holding an rocking, lay her down and sing it again rubbing her back, then say good night and turn out the lights and leave.

To transition to her falling asleep not nursing, I started doing most of the feeding in the living room, doing most of that routine in her room, then singing as I nursed her to sleep in her room in the dark. That way the feeding was for comfort not nutrition, if that makes sense.

Also around that point I think I started stretching her wake time from end of nap to bed time to like three hours or so? And we dropped the swaddle around then because she was fighting it more than being comforted by it.

@Foodnerd81: That sounds like her last night. I think she got super mad that I came in, rocked her and left. I'll try with DH first next time to see if it works, but I think more often than not, I'll be having to feed her. Did you ebf? If so, how did you do your bedtime routine without nursing to sleep?

@MamaBehr: oh I'm definitely more tired than when she was a newborn! I had that adrenaline for a while I think which made it so much easier. I feel like I've already been in the sleep regression for a month already because of moving to her crib. Another month of this... Oy. We're going out of town on July 4th so that won't help things I'm sure.

@abbydabbydoodlebug: for us it was just the month! So hopefully she figures it out soon.
I was more tired during the 4 month sleep regression than the newborn phase!!!

@MamaBehr: ok thank you for your input. I agree that this sleep regression is a total B. I just want to make sure that there isn't something I could be doing to help, but I think you're right and it just needs to be ridden out... However long that may be. Ugh

@MamaBehr: this is what we did too- CIO for the initial falling asleep, but I still fed her motn. I tried cutting the motn feeds shorter and she did. Not. Like it. I have in and just kept feeding her for wake ups and she eventually dropped them on her own and started STTN at 9 months. Basically we could sped a long time trying to sooth her in motn or I could go in, feed her, and have her back in her crib half an hour later.

If it was really close to the previous feed I would have Dh go try to sooth her first sometimes. Sometimes it worked, many times not, but if I ever walked in and didn't feed her right away she would get super pissed.

Ahhh, the 4 month regression hell. My son was down to 1 wakeup to eat during the night and it went to 3 during this time! I just fed him each time he woke up because it's a huge time of growth and figured he needed the calories. It ended after 2 weeks and he was back down to his usual 1 time per night, so it didn't create any bad habits, he was just extra hungry. I also notice he moved his bedtime and wakeup time around after the regression period too.

@abbydabbydoodlebug: I've really struggled getting him into a great bedtime routine because of the other two (we are doing baths or bedtime routine from 7:00 until 8:30!). Right now we do his solids dinner at 6:45. Bath at 710. Pjs and nursing until he falls asleep, which happens somewhere between 730 and 815.
I, by no means, am doing it correctly. And, he still sleeps in our room, because my older son isn't ready for a big boy bed, so E's crib is being used.
It sounds like you are doing good stuff to me. The sleep regression is a beast, and I'm not sure how much you could change to make it better. But I'm, by no means, an expert.

@MamaBehr: oh ok, interesting! I wasn't sure about how the motn feedings work. Like, when is she hungry vs just waking and not going back to sleep. For bedtime, I used to nurse her to sleep but she started waking up after 30 min so I started trying to put her down drowsy. We do bath, onesie/socks, nurse and then I either have to rouse her a little if she feel asleep and put her in her sleep suit and sway for a min before putting her down. Basically what I do for naps except with a feeding before. I'm wondering if I am putting her down to long after she wakes up from hey last nap. She is usually up by 5 and we start bath at 630. Sould we be having her asleep by 1.5-2 hours? What time is E's bedme? (This is another question I was going to ask my pedi)

@abbydabbydoodlebug: I intend to sleep train with E around 6.5 months (it's due to us traveling otherwise I would do it in a few weeks). And I'm going to do the same thing I did with ds#1. We did CIO at bedtime, but when he woke up in the middle of the night I still fed him (DS#1 was bottle fed). Eventually, he stopped getting up to eat and because he was able to fall asleep in his own at the beginning of the night, he could soothe himself to sleep in the middle of the night. So, you can still feed her in the middle of the night.

@MamaBehr: that's great! Glad you're getting sleep again.

I only got 4.5 hours sleep total last night. It was so bad. Ever since I moved her to her crib at 3 months, it's slowly gotten worse and worse. From 6 hours to 5 to 4.5 to 4 to now max is 3 hour stretch. Ugh. Our 4 month appt is in 2 weeks (she turned 4 months yesterday, but her pedi was on vacation) and I'm literally counting down the days to get advice from my pedi about what to do. I'm worried about her weight gain and don't want to sleep train if she needs the calories.

@abbydabbydoodlebug: I always nursed E when he woke up and then one night it just stopped! He started getting up once maybe twice a night! I don't know what happened (though it totally happened at his 5 month mark). So now we are back to two MOTN wake ups.... :) phew. It was bad, but it's over now :) hopefully your sweet little girl will get out of this phase soon

I always nurse! It always works so that's just what I do. He's refusing to sleep in his crib now so he sleeps with me and it's easy to just pop the boob in. I'm not worried about creating bad habits. Especially with nursing.

@abbydabbydoodlebug: I didn't make it with nursing, but I think you're doing all the right things. Sometimes they just do these things. If you've tried other stuff and she just wants to nurse, and that's what's working for you, do it for now, try the other way again later. :) You're right, you can sleep train later if you have to.

So we're going through the 4 month sleep regression right now and she woke up at 11 and I fed her for an hour. Full feed, not a snack and she woke up am hour later and won't go back to sleep. Tried rocking her and she was just getting more irritated. So I guess I should nurse her even though I know she's not hungry? Or maybe have DH try? It's been 30 min with her mostly wiggling and only recently started getting upset.

Ugh when is this stupid regression going to be over and I get my happy baby back!?
