@ShootingStar: I agree with many of your recommendations! My lo had been a pretty shitty sleeper for quite awhile and I was tired of getting up constantly. We really started increasing his bottle feedings and he has slept well ever since.

@ms.janedoe: I might recommend trying not giving meds before bed one night. We had been giving our lo meds before bed but he would wake up after about 4-5 hours (likely when the meds wore off) and wouldn't be keen to take more medicine half asleep. So we figured there was a chance that being abruptly woken up with pain might be worse than falling asleep with steady pain.

Thank you all SO much (sorry for not getting back to this sooner). I'm struggling tonight, I put her down, and she was up right away, then stood up, then promptly fell backward and nailed her head on the opposite side of the crib. Perfect. I've been trying to get her back to sleep, but it's not working, and she just keeps standing up. Faaaaail. I honestly don't think I'll be able to do CIO with her until she can learn to at least sit back down...she just ends up falling on her head (hard) and screaming, and I can't let her cry after that. :(

Sigh, I have a feeling it'll be a long few weeks (hopefully not more than that...ugh). :/

@Alivoo01: yeah, teething is the devil. I think we're on a teething break right now, too. She's holding steady at just her 6 teeth.

@OsoInGreenAndGold: my dad said this EXACT thing to me last night and it made me feel so much better! i mean, i know this in my head, but sometimes you need a little reminder that everything is temporary and the first year(ish) is just a whole string of phases and nothing is permanent - good or bad!

@ms.janedoe: no expert advice here, but we're dealing with the same. Just got her first 2 teeth (and still teething i think) and also standing up in her crib, wobbly legs, etc. She's standing in her sleep and getting stuck there. We've been calmly walking in and setting her down again, trying not to engage her, just remind her it's sleep time. Sometimes it takes a few visits, but she's usually tired enough that she'll fall asleep. I'm too scared to just leave her there, because she usually falls and bangs her head :( she's only 6.5 months though, so she may not be as strong as your LO :) i hope this phase passes quickly for you!!

@Anagram: Some nights are better than others given he's not teething. If he's teething, forget about it. Something is going on this week where he wakes up, sits up, and lays back down only to roll around until he finds a comfy spot for a few minutes then rinse and repeat. He'll shriek/yell while doing this, but never cry. No idea what's going on now. His 4 lateral incisors broke through 2 weeks ago so I'm wondering if he's teething again? Maybe? I don't know. We no longer feed MOTN either.

@Alivoo01: awww....is his sleep the same? I'm almost afraid to say it (or type it) out loud but...Maya's sleep has finally, finally started to improve. She has actually STTN a handful of times (not every night but still!) and most nights she just has 1 wake up.

We stopped feeding at night finally and I think that's helped a bit. Also, she's out of daycare for the summer so she's napping well at home and not sick.

Okay, so D's not standing yet and he hasn't been teething since we did CIO, so take this with a grain of salt. So this is what we did/learned, and D sleeps about 11-12 hours straight most nights:

- The first few weeks of training I just let him CIO before 2 am. He had been sleeping until 3 or 4 and waking up to eat, so I knew if he woke up earlier he probably wasn't hungry and just needed to figure it out.

- When we were having consistent wake ups around 3/4am I would feed him, he'd fall back to sleep, and then I'd put him back in the crib. Sometimes we needed a pacifier to get him back to sleep if he woke up on transfer.

- We wait 10 minutes for all wake ups. Even if he's screaming his head off. Several times he's gone back to sleep after 7 minutes.

- Now that he's learned to put himself to sleep he pretty much only ever wakes up because he's hungry. I started to be able to tell on the days he ate less that he'd have a MOTN waking. Two nights ago he had a waking for the first time in like 2 weeks, and it was a night that he fell asleep during his last bottle and only ate half of it. On most days, in order to tank him up as much as possible during the day, we offer him 8oz bottles 5x/day (sometimes he eats only 6 or 7 though) and he gets 3 solids meals a day where he eats at least a whole jar or pouch, sometimes 2.

I know you mentioned H doesn't eat all that much solids. Maybe you need to stagger like I do? It feels like you're feeding the baby ALL DAY, but it's been worth it to get great sleep out of him. His schedule is: 7:15a bottle, 9:30a solids, 10:30a bottle, 12:30a solids, 1:30a bottle, 3:30a bottle, 5:30a solids, 7:00a bottle.

DS was the exact same way at that age. He was rolling all over the place also. He'd pull himself up or sit up and not know how to lay back down. I tried CIO and he'd fall asleep after an hour or so of crying sitting up only to lean/fall one way and bash his head in the slats of his crib. And he was back awake! yay! Sigh. He's almost 1 now, and is still sitting up a few times MOTN, but has sort of kind of learned to lay back down by throwing himself backwards or face planting. I'm guessing he won't be a good sleeper until he's liek 5. 1 down... 4 to go... ha! :(

@ms.janedoe: My LO was never a good sleeper to begin with, but when she started to stand, her sleep got a million times worse. I let it go for 3 weeks thinking (hoping) it would resolve itself and when it didn't, I did CIO again (we'd done it before but it didn't "stick" because she got really sick about a week later).

I have to tell you--CIO is much worse when they are standing! One night, she was violently shaking the crib bars and banging on the wall like a little prison inmate. SIGH. poor girl.

But it worked and her sleep is back to her normal.

We're at 8.5 months and he's all over the flippin' place, so I feel you. The past few nights he's slept OK until around 1, at which point he does not want to go back down for a solid 90 minutes or so. I've left him to CIO after feeding and doing another check, and he just won't let up. It's hard to know what to do. Praying this "phase" is over soon.

"Have I broken my baby?" made me laugh.

I've just come to expect that, in the first couple of years, there is no "regular" with sleep. You'll be trucking along with a really great routine for a while, then BAM - teeth/viral rash/regression/JBBMFB. Things will be manageable again soon - just keep telling yourself that "this, too, shall pass." Go with your gut - you're not gonna break your baby.

R started waking up about 45 minutes after I put her to sleep a month ago and crying because molars were breaking through but they gave her an ear infection. She didn't pull on her ears at all. Feel the back of her neck and see if a lymph node is swollen.

So LO is a little over 8 months. At 6 months we did CIO and it worked great, We were getting 0-1 wakeups a night, sometimes 2, but it was pretty rare.

About 2-3 weeks ago she started teething, and then we've been out of town the last two weeks. We got home and she has now learned to pull up in her crib and stand. I feel like it has been the perfect storm to open up the door to shit sleep again. Booooo.

She's now getting up like, an hour and a half after I put her down, then she has 2-3 hour stretches before she's up again,, so we're looking at 3-4 wakeups a night. It blows balls. I'm leaning towards doing CIO for at least the first wakeup, and depending on the timing, another (I haven't night weaned her completely yet, before we were not going in to feed her until it was around 12-1). My worry though, is that I don't want her to be crying if she's in pain from her teeth (but I've been giving her Motrin)...and it's hell to watch her just stand there on her tiny wobbly legs not knowing how to sit/lay back down.

Will she figure out how to go back to sleep, or have I broken my baby?!
