I discovered my son was doing this when he was 2.5, I was up nursing baby and happened to check, and he was laying awake for hours in the middle of the night, but would go back to sleep until a regular wake-up time. At the time, we chose to drop nap completely (there were other signs this was maybe necessary.) Night sleep improved exponentially.

I am of the belief that night sleep is significantly more restorative than napping, so I would work to move to one nap (even if it means a few grumpy days) and see if that improves night sleep.

We don't use a baby monitor anymore and haven't for a very long time. DD2 has been STTN for at least a year now, or so I thought. She spent the night at my parents house last night and my mom said she heard her over the monitor talking and playing in her bed for FOUR HOURS last night. She never cried or called out for anyone to come get her but she's almost two, still needs two naps a day (now I know why). I guess my question here is, is there anything to do about this? Do I just leave it be and hope it's not happening every night? This new information makes me so nervous for the bed transition in the future. I also think she would benefit from better night sleep!
