@autumnlove: My temps were all over the place when I tempted orally...no clear pattern whether I ovulated or not. Now that I temp vaginally, I can clearly see the months that I ovulate (dips, peaks, etc) and the months that I don't.

My temps were low, but they still showed a consistent pattern. Which was all that mattered to me.

I am a mouth breather, so I always temped vaginally. It really wasn't a big deal.

I'm a mouth breather and never had a problem with temping. I would keep my mouth closed for a couple minutes and then do it.

My first couple months of charting were kinda messy because I didn't realize that on my thermometer, the beep just meant it was done being sure I didn't have a fever. It actually took another 90s to 2m to get a completely accurate temp. So, maybe look at the directions on your thermometer? (I use the Geratherm Basal)

After figuring that out, I also switched over to vaginal temping, because sometimes I would doze off again for a little while waiting for the thermometer and it would come out of the little pocket under my tongue or even out of my mouth completely.

Since those two changes, my temps were much, much easier to interpret.

@autumnlove: My acupuncturist told me to check my temp intravaginally if that sort of thing happens. It wasn't fun but my temps were WAY more reliable and consistent.

I think I am too, my temps are usually high 96/low 97. You can try temping vaginally to get more accurate results if that's something you're okay with!

Are you a mouth breather at night? I am a drooler and mouth breather and my temps seem kinda low in the morning. I just started charting this week and I'm still trying to figure out my normal!
