@yoursilverlining: Agreed. I got a custom one over a year ago, and I have way fewer headaches, less neck and shoulder soreness, and I think I sleep better too. It's been worth every penny.

@yoursilverlining: I would love to see a chiropractor. Ours is not covered, though I'm not sure about if it's medically indicated, and it is as far as I'm concerned. I'll have to look into that more. Thank you!

I agree with everything @yoursilverlining: said. That being said, I did use some boil and bite guards previously. I would recommend looking at reviews on Amazon and pick one. Honestly, maybe have this conversation with your dentist and see if they recommend an OTC.

My guard was quite literally life-changing.

(bumping for you)

Also, I know you said the dentist-made mouth guard is not an option right now (and I *totally* get that, they are $$$) I ended up getting one made by my dentist last year after trying a couple of OTC mouth guards and the dentist-made one was a total game changer. Like complete night and day. Worth every penny. It’s quite a process that goes into fitting and making the mouth guards at the dentist (and he checks the fit at every cleaning so ensure it continues to fit properly), so I imagine the fit is much better than those over the counter. I totally understand not wanting to pull that trigger, but just wanted to give you my experience in case you end up needing to go that route.

I grind and clench my teeth like it’s my job at night and I was waking up with horrific headaches and neck aches every single day that lasted all day. My dentist kept telling me to reduce the stress in my life. LOL like that is an option. If I could, I would bud.

One additional thought, if you are into “alternative” medical treatments is I’ve gotten some great relief through seeing a chiropractor. My medical insurance will cover chiropractor and massage visits for “medical need” and based on severity/frequency of headaches, my chiropractor office got me covered under my health insurance for visits. He works a lot on my jaw and upper back and neck and I’ve had improvement from that as well.

My dentist is recommending a mouth guard for me for night time because it's becoming clear that I'm clenching my jaw. I'm wearing down my teeth, my gums are receeding, and I have a very strong suspicion it's contributing to my migraines. I'm not in a place right now financially that I can shell out the $300+ for the customized one that the dentist can make (that is not covered by my dental insurance - they've checked). I know they sell them at drug stores and stuff for a heck of a lot cheaper. Can anyone recommend one?
