I would fix. Then again, I am all about making changes to spaces to fit your needs. We even weren't afraid to look for houses that needed some work. We ended up with a house with a kitchen that needed a TON of work and looking at it now, it was so worth it. Saved us a few grand! Plus, updating that kitchen alone bumped our property value up 20 grand! And we only spend about 3 on it. I am 150% okay with that!

Fix! It may be impossible to find a house you love, so if you're happy with the rest of it, then definitely fix.

I'd do the fixing. We're planning massive renovations to our house too, so I don't see a problem doing large projects.

I'd fix. You could probably do it for a reasonable price too.

I'd fix since 20 years is the tentative move date! That's a long time to "hate" your kitchen/1st floor!

I would fix, especially if the timeline is 2 decades!

DH and I have been in our house for about 4 years now. It is a great house: end of the street, four bedrooms, 2.5 baths, PLENTY of space.

The problem is the downstairs. There is a tiny kitchen with zero counter space, totally closed first floor. Ideally, I would open up a wall between the front room and back room, and the back part of the house I would rearrange to create a larger kitchen and small "mud room" type area after coming in from the garage.

DH thinks I am crazy and would rather just move (when asked when this move would happen he said 20 years!!) I said forget moving then! We will just slowly do things to the house.

So what would you do? Would you stay and go all out with what you want to make it a perfect house? Or would you do bare minimum to get the house updated to sell (in 20 yrs....)?
