I was told that this far into pregnancy, if your LO flips, you will know it. It's apparently a massive and uncomfortable movement. So i hope she stays head down!

@nana87: nice!! I had an appointment yesterday too and it turns out mine wasn't breech! I don't know if she flipped or if I just didn't know what I was feeling. But regardless she's head down… so I hope she stays!

@Mae: aaand another update, today at a follow up appointment (for a different issue) baby had already flipped! I thought she hadn't because I felt hiccups at the top of my stomach while I was in the waiting room, but then her head was down in the u/s. I sat on a birthing ball for awhile yesterday while watching tv, played some music down low, put frozen peas on the top of my stomach for a few minutes, and did some cat/cow yoga stretches, but I don't know if any of that actually made a difference. I'm hoping she doesn't flip again!

I could tell with my second. Before one of my ultrasounds I told the tech that I was positive she was breech, and pointed right to where I thought her head was. I was correct

My second baby was breech and I could definitely tell: her little hard head would poke out around my belly button, and she kicked super low, with painful, sharp kicks to my cervix. It felt like she was tap dancing on my cervix! She did flip, just before my 36 week appointment. Swimming helps flip babies.

@nana87: my midwife recommended crawling around on the floor! I also set up a board that ran between my couch and the floor and I would lie in my side, head down by the floor but it took an ECV to get my girl turned.

@twodoghouse: lol "sorry I thought your asses were your head baby…" :) Mine used to move a lot! I'd have a couple days where I was getting kicked in the pelvis and be peeing all the time then a few days where I felt like she was super high and kicking up under my ribs and I had trouble breathing. Then flip again. But now she just seems to have not moved for a long time. I haven't gotten kicked above the belly button in like 2 weeks.

My baby was breech up until pretty late - I think like 36 weeks? And it HURT! I could distinctly feel his head wedged up under my ribcage. Super uncomfortable. I was so happy when he flipped!

I thought I knew exactly where they both were based on where I've been feeling the strongest kicks, but at this morning's ultrasound I found out that Blake's "head" was really both their butts together on my left side. Oops. Alice was back to being head down but her kicks are still really low. Granted, mine have less room to move around, but she's been low the entire time and her kicks are always very low and she's usually head down. Your little girl has always been way down there too, right? It's possible that she's head down but scrunched up down there so you're still feeling her all the way down there!

32 weeks here. I feel kicks and punches all over. They confirmed at my appointment yesterday that he's head down (and now I know what I am feeling in my ribs is his little butt), but there's movement everywhere. Hiccups are a great way to tell, but he hasn't had them in awhile.

@ms.janedoe: glad to hear it all went well for you! If my LO ends up breech at delivery time I feel like I may opt for a scheduled c-section as well if that is what is recommended for me… the idea of doing a breech birth freaks me out a bit! But I know she's got 10 weeks to turn so hopefully I can coax her :)

Liam did a ton of late flip-flopping, but I only knew for sure which way he was facing because I had very frequent ultrasounds. Every time I thought he was head up or head down, I would be proved wrong at the u/s.

I did do lots of cat/cow yoga moves when he was breech at around 35 weeks to try to flip him. He did flip, but not sure if it was because of the exercises I did.

@nana87: I'm going to ask my midwife about whether the exercises are really effective/safe. The one I saw yesterday was called a forward inversion where you kneel on the couch and have your forearms on the floor so your back makes like a 45 degree angle with the floor and you hang like that for 1 minute then get on all 4s on the floor and let the belly hang for a few minutes. I know that being on all 4s is baby-safe, but my doc had told me to avoid inversions when I do yoga so I want to check on that. I'm guessing its safe because its for such a short period of time and not all the way upside down? But I don't want to do it until I get the all-clear :)

@Mae: They didn't catch that she was breech until I was 38.5 weeks... I wasn't comfortable trying a version (they did offer), so I had a C-section scheduled for the following week. It actually went fabulously and I was really happy! DD ended up being 8 pounds 8 ounces with a giant head! ;)

@Mae: my dr has an ultrasound machine in the exam room, so she usually does a quick ultrasound at each appointment. She didn't say anything about exercises I could try to do yet--she mentioned that she starts trying to move the baby around 35 weeks--but I might look into them! At my childbirth class, the instructor talked about sitting upright on a birthing/exercise ball as one technique to turn baby, and that def seems like an easy one to try.

@ms.janedoe: were you able to have her naturally or did you need a c-section?

@nana87: gah. uncooperative babies! how did they check for you, did they have to do an u/s or could they tell with the doppler and/or feeling around? Did you talk about doing any exercises to flip her on your own? I was googling around yesterday and saw some inversions and stuff that some online sources recommend to try to encourage baby to move on their own.

Interestingly enough, I think that my LO had hiccups last night and they were very high up just under my rib. So I'm pretty sure she is either sitting upright or laying transverse under my ribs with her feet wedged down by my pelvis.

LO was a frank breech (both legs up by head). There was one big lump right at my left ribs which I thought was her butt, but was really her head. On the other side was another lump, those ended up being feet, they could be up super high under my rubs or float down a few inches. Hiccups were always high for me too.

@Mae: mine went head down and then flipped back up again before 32 weeks and stayed that way. Honestly, she didn't have any room to move. I could tell by her kicks which were below my belly button, her hiccups (up high and to the right), and whenever I would push down on her head--she would butt it out. She had her head up in my ribs and it was so hard to breathe. I carry my weight in my stomach, but I could still tell with her. She had her feet froggy legged up and would stick her head out if she was frustrated. I never tried to move her because I felt like she moved back head up for a reason. She flipped down and went back back. She had more room sitting up I suppose.

@Mae: @skipra: brought up a good point - if you feel the hiccups (kind of like muscle spasms, but in a rhythm), you can tell which way the baby is facing. If it's down low, then the head is down.

None since I believe she settled in about 2 weeks ago. I hadn't seen that website but I will definitely check it out! I'm not really able to feel her bits and pieces at this point, but I'll keep trying to see when I'm able to! And I do yoga weekly with lots of cat/cow whenever my lower back hurts so hopefully that's helping her move if she is stuck hah

Do you feel hiccups? I think that might help you figure out the position. I think my little guy is normally head down and usually it feels like they are coming from around my hip or lower belly.
With DS I was convinced he was transverse because I just felt stretching across my belly but his butt was on one side and was just kicking out, head was down on the left side. Same thing most of the time with this pregnancy just the opposite side. I think he still flips at night sometimes but by morning is back in the usual position stretching across the top of my belly.

I could tell how she was, but I also knew she was breech.

I didn't pee quite as much, but had trouble breathing. Her legs were under my left rib cage and head under my right.

If I poked her butt, her whole body would wiggle. If I poked her head, just her head would move.

My US last week showed him not only breech, but crooked. Now that they showed me, I can tell where his head is on my right and I can feel his bottom towards the bottom.

If you push on whatever is sticking out on top, if it's a butt, it should move pretty easily. If it's a head, then it'll pretty much stay put.
