This is my first and I'm currently at 24, almost 25, weeks. I also have an anterior placenta that they noticed at my 21 week ultrasound. I don't believe it's made a difference at all! I saw her on ultrasound at 6w, heard heartbeat at 8w, saw her again on ultrasound at 17w, and again at 21. I first felt her probably around 16w. But this was probably more her rolling and hitting the placenta which I felt against my stomach, not actually her but just the reaction of her moving. I usually do have to sit still and/or lie down to really feel her moving. But now at 24 weeks, she kicks hard and there's no mistaking it! I think I still only really feel her when I'm sitting quietly or laying, then running around. But I guess that's also chalked up to the fact that I'm purposefully trying to wait to feel her.

I have struggled a LOT with movement this time around (anterior) compared to last time, where G was posterior.

It's nowhere near as pronounced ... and it's a lot of movement right down into my back/butt/crotch this time. Hubby has only felt this baby once **he thinks** and I'm 26.5 weeks.

I had an anterior placenta. I never saw movement from the outside at all. There was one spot on my side where he liked to push with his feet. I could feel kicks from the outside there, but my husband never did. I could feel flutters and kicks internally, but I wasn't always sure about them.

I didn't realize what I was missing until I went to a baby shower for a friend who was due within a couple of weeks of me. I could see her baby moving from across the table! It was absolutely crazy to me.

I have had different placenta positions with all of them (though, I actually have no clue where my placenta is this time) and the movement has always been hard for me to feel no matter where it is. I think I don't have a very sensitive abdomen. Or I just have chill kids. At any rate, I don't associate the amount of movement with the health of the baby.

@narwhal: Yeah, I'm 24 weeks too and I've seen my belly move a few times, it's just not nearly as often as with #1. I'm ready for this kid to be distracting me all day! (I know, I know....be careful what you wish for, right?)

@Happygal: Oh, that's interesting--I had some sharp pains in my back like you're describing earlier today. Didn't occur to me that it might be related. I'll have to pay more attention!

It was probably like 24ish weeks that I first started feeling real movement. Now, it feels like shes speed bagging my belly button from the inside, and then there's the stretching where she literally rides from hip to rib. That feels great. ;) Kidding, it's a blessed reassurance.

I'm 24 weeks now with an AP. I didn't feel anything until about 19/20 weeks, just little twitches... and in the last 2 weeks it's more obvious kicks and active times of the day. I actually caught my belly moving on camera today.

I have one this go round, too! Felt movement at the same time and I think it's about as strong, but at 29 weeks, I'm experiencing new, not so fun sensations....basically, she can wriggle and it causes such a sharp pain in my back that I stop in place in gasp. I've been laughing because it's so shocking, but the novelty is going to wear off fast. I guess it's b/c there's not that padding in the back to protect whatever nerve she's getting.

It also explains why my OB has to work just a little harder to find her heartbeat during check ups. That's new and a little unnerving.

This morning, my OB was like "totally normal, since your placenta's in the front, but definitely call me if you really do notice decreased fetal movement." I'm like...LADY! That's the problem! I can't tell if it's decreased or not! She has me wigging out, obviously.

And as he got bigger, it just got more intense and was even kind of ticklish to me. He'd kick me there and I'd just start laughing, haha.

I just found out that I have an anterior placenta (I am almost 19 weeks now). So these responses make me feel relieved because I too have noticed that I don't feel movements very often and they are quite subtle when I do feel them. The funny thing is, both times I have had an ultrasound, the techs have commented on how my baby has been moving around like crazy, and it was weird that I wasn't feeling it at all. With LO1, I was definitely feeling stronger movement by now.

@Adira: Every so often, I get a kick in a particular spot (seriously only in this one spot) and it shocks me by how strong it is. This makes so much sense now! I had no idea why this was happening.

@oliviaoblivia: When E was born and had had skin-to-skin, they took her to weigh her and she was thrashing around like a lunatic. DH asked "What is she doing over there?!" and I pointed to my belly and said "THE SAME THING SHE'S BEEN DOING IN THERE ALL THIS TIME!" Haha.

I had an anterior placenta. I barely felt movement and never really felt big kicks or anything like that. I mostly felt hiccups. By the end I was doing kick counts every night just to make sure. I went to L&D twice for monitoring and they were like "are you feeling that?" she was moving like crazy but I didn't feel a thing. I think my DH felt her move maybe twice the entire pregnancy.

@mfa_lady: With Logan (my second), when he would move and kick me, you could visibly see my stomach moving or spots protruding where he was kicking me. With Xander (my first, anterior placenta), that was a lot less noticeable. As he got bigger and he would kick, my stomach would still move, but it's be a much larger area instead of being like "Oh, this little protruding spot is a foot, or this must be his head because it's so big!" it all felt really the same. I couldn't tell his head from his butt or any of his limbs because there was a big cushion in the way!

As your baby gets bigger, you will definitely feel her more and more, but the movements won't feel as intense as they probably were with your first. With Xander, I also felt like I didn't feel his movements a lot near the very end. I used to worry and have to count his movements to make sure he was okay. With Logan, I could feel him all the way through labor, so I knew he was fine. So be on the look out for that as you get closer to your due date.

I don't think I had an anterior placenta the first time around, and I still didn't feel DS regularly and strongly until maybe 22-4 weeks? This time, anterior placenta and didn't start feeling DD until around the same time. Now at 37 weeks with probably an above average amount of fluid, I feel her all the time. And pretty much have since I first started to. It's crazy how active she is, and I'm actually scared she will be my wild child since her movements are so strong even when muffled by the placenta!

@Adira: This helps a ton, thank you! Funny you should say that about your side, though, because the one time I've felt like "WHOA! BABY!" kicks was when I was laying on my side and I could tell she was way far over there. They were more like what I felt with E. It's just so hard not to worry!
