Thanks ladies. I think if the money is right we are going to do it, keep our house here and rent there and see if we like it. I'm terrified, but excited at the same time...

With the military, we move pretty often and I must say it would be easier to move when your littlest is still young. We moved when ours was four months and it was a perfect age (if anything almost on the cusp of being a little too late) since she wasn't crawling quite yet and still slept a lot.

We also don't have support systems when we move, but you'll make them wherever you go—just get plugged into things ASAP!

We moved when LO was 4 w and now 20m and I was pregnant. I say go for it! It will suck for a while and then you'll settle into a new routine and build a new support system.

I haven't done this personally. I would advise to think through the lifestyle you want to have, with respect to family/friends, and also cost of living. We moved to be near friends and family but don't really utilize family for babysitting (maybe we should) and all of our friends have young kids like us... I thought this would mean we would get together all the time but what it really means is that everyone is too busy to squeeze in regular meet-ups in our spread-out metro area. That is just our experience. I thought we were moving back home for good but am now entertaining the idea of moving away which I never thought I'd do.

Good luck - sounds like a tough decision.

@luckypenny just did, wall her.

I would do it if it meant better job opportunities and a living situation you could live with (nice housing, good schools, interesting place to be, etc.). But I wouldn't leave a good thing for something inferior or worse as far as quality of life goes.

If i had a strong support system that i relied on heavily, I wouldn't want to leave it.

I would do it, but I don't really have a support system... I think it will be tough with kids at any age. Your call though. We'd like to move there as well but are a few years out still, so maybe I value the opportunity at this time (vicariously).

Am I completely insane to consider this? We have been trying to move to California for about 5 years, but of course now that DD #2 is only 12 days and DD #1 is 20 months, we know an offer is coming for my husband now. Obviously the timing is horrible, but I'm afraid we won't get another chance. DH is telling me it's basically my choice. It will be a promotion, but the cost of living is so much more there and everything is just so much more complicated with two LOs!

The biggest hesitation for me is leaving my support system- my family and friends are really helpful. We would push the move back until DD #2 is at least three months, but I know it will be a logistical nightmare! Anyone considered or done something similar?
