I've never heard about the 36" rule, but I guess it does make sense.
DS2 is still in his crib, at 3yr2m and well over 36". He has never tried to climb out and he definitely finds comfort in his crib. Have been going back and forth in my head about when to move him, but so far there has been no real reason, he still fits. So don't feel bad that he's still in a crib.

I've never heard of this. My almost 2 year old is super tall and is getting close to 36". But she hasn't tried climbing out of her crib yet, and we plan to keep her in it as long as possible. She's a good sleeper, and we don't want to do anything to disrupt that if we don't have to. :)

I've never heard of this - DS is definitely over 36" and has been for quite a while. But he has never tried to climb out and has no problem with his crib, so we're keeping it.

E is 3 years 10 months and we just switched her out to her big girl bed last month. She hit 36" back when she was 2. She never tried to climb out, and the way our old house was set up I felt more comfortable with her being in a secure place. Now that we've moved and baby #2 is on the way, it was time :). Not sure if that was the right thing to do for everyone, but it definitely was for us.

I want to leave my 2yo in the crib forever  I think he'll have a really hard time staying in a bed. He climbed out again the other day (seemingly safely though I didn't see it, he just showed up!) so we took out the spring and have the mattress on the floor inside the crib walls to buy us time. It's low enough now though that he has to stand up for me to pick him up.

I'm guessing they recommend that height because if your kid gets taller they could climb out and hurt themselves. We did the crib transition really early at 20 months and for the most part it was great, so a 3 year old in a crib is kind of mind boggling to me, lol. Having to pick them up out of it would be a no go :silly:

We just switched my daughter to a double bed out of the crib. She'll be three at the end of September and was 37" but I've never heard of the height suggestion, it was just coincidence . We switched her for potty training and because we need the crib for her sister, other than that she loved it! She never tried to climb out and actually cried and begged for it back. I'd say hold out as long as possible.

you are not crazy. My daughter is like 39 inches and still in a crib. She doesn't try to climb out. But also she's 3, I'm pretty sure if she did climb out she'd do so safely and not fall on her head. We're switching her to a big girl bed this week, but not bc of her height. Just because she's over 3 and it seems like time.

Hmm...I never heard that so never thought about it. My DD could climb out (and did if we were playing in her room) but never really attempted to at night. So we left her in there until she was 3! That's when she asked for her big girl bed. At 3 she is about 40" haha. But she doesn't get out of her big girl bed at night (so far) so I guess it worked!

My 41" lo who is 2 1/4 is still in the crib and will be for as long as possible. He can class climb out, but takes a look at the fall and changes his mind...

We didn't move DS1 until he was 3 and I don't think he knew he could climb out. I've always lived under the rule to keep them in the crib as long as you can!

DD is almost 2 and tall - probably 34 or 35" now. I have absolutely no plans to move her out of the crib anytime soon. She's happy in there, and has never once even thought about climbing out.

T is 36" and just crawled out of her pnp so crib conversion is coming. She's 27 mo. I wish I could keep her in there forever. Probably because at that height it's easy to get out.

I was randomly reading something on the website of our crib manufacturer and it said to convert the crib to a toddler bed when they climb out OR hit 36". Has anyone heard this before or followed that rule?
2.75yo and has never attempted to climb out - he's happy as a clam in there. Had no plans of switching him until he climbs out or just doesn't fit comfortably. But he's def hit 36" so now I'm unsure.
People also seem surprised when I say he's still in the crib. Am I crazy?
