On one of my first days I forgot to screw the cap on lo's bottle. So I went to feed her and the formula spills all over her face. Poor thing was shocked and started screaming. :(

I didn't know what to do first, clean her (and me) up so she wasn't soaking wet and cold or feed her because she was hungry and that comforts her. I went with clean so when she ate she would be comfortable, and glad I did because she was so worn out from all that excitement she fell asleep while eating.

We still have hectic days..... but I think you just get used to life being hectic.

I'm not ashamed to admit I was scared of (not for- OF) my boy for the first couple months. When my husband went back to work, I hadn't actually spent more than an hour all alone with him in the 3 weeks since he had arrived. After a little while I built up confidence, but I still clearly remember being scared. You learn how to sooth them, and things like running errands aren't a big deal anymore.

@MaisyMay: I didn't shower without DH home for nearly two months. Firstly it was because I passed out after labor and couldn't stand up for long than a couple minutes. I needed his help. I also had a fear of DS crying once I got in the shower and as a newborn I didn't want that or think it was healthy!

I never did anything other than feed and change DS and a few other basic needs like make myself eat. I spent most of the first two months holding my baby all the time :)

@MungBean: DH had almost 2 weeks off, and he split it so that it would be a few days before LO arrived and then about 8 days after. He'll be off in 3 hours, home in about 3 1/2.

I remember the first day alone - I was a complete wreck! I was lucky enough to have DH home w/me for three whole weeks, and the last week, I cried everyday when I thought about doing it alone. The anticipation of it was worse than the actual day, though, and somehow I got through it. You'll do great! :)

The first day I was home alone with LO (after my mom left, and DH was at work), it was for 12 hours (DH's long day). When he got home the dishes weren't done, the laundry was unfolded, I was still in the yoga pants I'd thrown on that morning, and I had ordered a pizza for dinner.

But DS was fed and clean and happy, so the day was deemed a success. Every day gets easier! You're doing great!

DH went back to work today, so I'm taking care of LO all by myself. Not going to lie, still slightly terrified but moving more towards just a little scared. We all slept well last night, so that's helped, but I will be glad when my husband is home! Only 5 1/2 hours to go!
Before he left, I warned him that my only focus today was on getting basic needs met: her fed and changed and pumping. Anything else could wait!
