Congratulations on the new house and new baby! I voted for big girl room now. We moved recently but my son hadn't been in his nursery for quite some time as we stayed with family for 6 months. So it was a brand new room different from anywhere he had been before. For about a week, he had trouble getting to sleep and other than that was fine.

I think I picked the perfect baby room for him so if we ever have another one I might regret the room choice and not want to kick him out of his room. We're not expecting or planning to be anytime soon so I couldn't think about that but would have if I was in your shoes.

We just moved yesterday and kept the crib to ease the transition. I think you can make switching rooms really exciting later too. She can watch you put it together and pick out big girl stuff...

we just moved and put LO into his big boy room right away and transitioned him out his crib. It's working out fine and when the new baby comes in 5 months, i think he will be totally used to his new room. I think that is much better than putting him in a nursery, only to move him again closer to when baby comes.

We moved last October and put DS in the smaller room so we could slowly decorate his big boy room. Finally made the move over in June when it was all ready for him (plus to get the nursery ready for LO2 due in November). He loves his big boy room but still goes into the nursery and declares it is his room too. When you ask where his sister will sleep he points to the hallway closet (he's 2 so I guess he could've chosen worse). I'd definitely put her in the big girl room now so there is never any question about it.

Similar case to @Truth Bomb.

I wasn't pregnant yet when we moved in Febrruary but we just moved LO into big girl room with big girl furniture and she loved it. We dismantled the crib during the move. Number 2 is coming early next year and will go in the smaller nursery designated rooms it's Lo's old crib.

I think that it will be different for her regardless of the type of room. I doubt she will want the box room because the whole house is different. Why do two transitions when you only need to do one?

@Cherrybee: Kids are so resilient. You're moving to a new house and she gets a new room! Just make that exciting for her, and she'll be totally fine. :D (And she'll be fine even if you don't make it exciting)

I wasn't even pregnant yet when we moved but we put LO in the room we intended her to stay in which is bigger than the room we knew would eventually be a nursery for #2. She was honestly not at all phased by the move.

I didn't vote because I don't think it really matters. It probably will be easier for you to just move her when you move so you don't have to set up a room just to change it later.

We switched Xander out of his nursery around 28 weeks and he was totally used to his new room when the baby arrived.

@Cherrybee: I'd do it now! We moved both kids into their new rooms here in the house. My older one moved from his 10sqm room to his new nearly 18sqm room with no trouble at all. All we did was make sure that all his furniture especially his crib was up when he first moved in.

I guess technically you could still move her to the box room after giving the big girl room a fair shot (2 weeks maybe?).

And by the way: :goodluck: Congrats on baby #2!!! :goodluck:

@Cherrybee: lol Thanks! Our handyman (who I'm basically waiting for at this point) has been OOT for weeks and then busy for another couple of weeks and keeps pushing back. I'm really hoping to get things done in the next 3 weeks - I just wish I had been much more on top of things. I never seemed to get that 2nd trimester burst of energy. :/

I voted big girl room straight away. This coming from someone expecting #2 in less than 6 weeks and no where near complete with transitioning LO#1 from the nursery to her big girl room and the nursery being nowhere ready for baby #2. No help, no energy, no time! hahah - sorry to be a downer, but I'd get as much done as you can the earlier you can when you have some energy. Plus it will be less work to move her things twice.

We are finally moving to our new house tomorrow! It is a lot bigger downstairs (our current house is tiny!) but, upstairs , it's almost exactly the same as our current house - the rooms are a little bigger but the layout is virtually identical.

E is currently in the box room and we had intended to lay out the box room in the new house exactly like her current bedroom to smooth the transition. Then, we could set about decorating and furnishing her big girl room with her and let her decide when she is going to move.

However, we have now discovered that we are expecting baby #2 in April (if all goes well) and it has got me to thinking that I don't want E to feel as though she's being evicted from her nursery to make room for baby brother/sister. Perhaps the house move is an ideal time to make the switch so she doesn't associate the new box room with being her room??

But..... I don't want to her feel alone and scared in a great big room in a new house. Maybe I should get her used to the new house first and then make the switch - as in plan A??

I'm over thinking this, aren't I?! :silly:
