I would go Queen if space is tight. We have a queen in our guest bedroom and it's kind of tight. I would think for our guests its fine but if I had to navigate that room everyday and deal with a baby, it would drive me nuts.

You could use the queen for a future guest bedroom in the future so it's not a complete waste.

I love my king but we have the space for it. As for size, we had no issues getting it into our house. My BIL bought a king and they had a lot of trouble getting up the stairs and into the back backroom. They had to get a smaller mattress.

What @MrsBrewer: said. If you'll have a guest room and can re-use whatever you buy now, go ahead and upgrade to the queen. Then make it your guest bed and get yourself a king when you move. Otherwise, I'd stick it out with the double for now. Just to be sure you actually do have space for the king when you move - you don't want to have to limit your home choice to "will our furniture fit?"

We bought a lot of really nice furniture when we first got married, and part of me wishes we hadn't - it can be limiting to have to choose an apartment based on whether or not your furniture will fit (either in the room, or through weird door/hallway setups). My DDs have a MASSIVE bedroom in part because the dimensions were such that it would have been hard to get our furniture into the room in a way that was practical.

Can you get a cheap twin set from Ikea or Costco and just stick it up against your existing bed and reuse it for a toddler bed later on? You can bungee the frames together and use one of those mattress gap wedges to unify the beds. Then throw out the full when you move and buy a King.

Hmm, well when you move, will you have a guest room? If so, I would suggest getting a queen now, and then a king when you move. Use the queen in the guest room, or store it until your LO moves to a big bed.

I would get a queen now. 2 years is a long time to live with a room with a king size bed squished in it. And you don't know if your new place will have enough room to fit a king size bed comfortably either. You can just plan to use the queen size mattress as a future guest bed (or even a bed for your LO).

If you do go for the king, make sure you get the split boxspring.

We were in a similar place a few years ago and ended up buying a cheap queen. It ended up being a good thing because when we bought our current house, we quickly discovered that the queen barely fit around the corner and up the stairs to our room, and a king never would have. Granted, we live in an area with very old homes, weird layouts, and small rooms. If you know for sure that you will move to a place that can fit a king, and it wouldn't be too horrible in your current place, I'd go for the king. But for us, I'm glad we went with the queen. As it is, we recently upgraded our mattress and bought a better queen, so even if we move to a bigger place eventually, we'll probably just keep our queen.

@stiletto_mom: no I don't think they're much harder than moving a queen. I mean it's a big, heavy mattress either way. Usually the box springs come as two singles since a giant box spring would be a nightmare to move. We've moved twice with our king.

I'd just wait until you have moved.
There is zero market for used mattresses and who knows what size bed will fit in your next home.
Most king box springs are two pieces. Mattresses are one piece but can give and squish a bit around corners.

We were in a full for 6 years and then upgraded to a queen when I was 35 weeks pregnant. It was a huge game changer. I'd go for the queen now and then upgrade to a king down the line. The queen can always become a guest bed later.

Definitely king! Mattresses are expensive to replace if you're only using it for a few years. A king bed was life changing!

I voted queen for now. We had a full size bed for four years, and then upgraded to a queen when I was pregnant with DD. It is an amazing change even with the small amount of difference in inches. We can actually sleep without touching each other (which is huge for me when I am pregnant). Our daughter can snuggle in with us and the dog does as well on occasion. Our room comfortably fits the queen bed, a dresser, a couple of bookshelves, and a chaise lounge that I will be using for breastfeeding baby #2. We will be able to fit a pack n play or co-sleeper as well, but wouldn't have room with a king. I would go nuts if my room was super cluttered with furniture or I didn't have everything I needed for night feeding. You can get comfortable, nice looking, and inexpensive temporary furniture at IKEA or something and then switch that bed into a guest room or a child's room down the road when you upgrade to a king.

We were in a full for the longest time and I had the same thought that a queen is not that much bigger so why bother. We can't comfortably fit a king so we got a queen and it is a huge difference over a full. DH can actually extend his legs so they are not always in my space and half the time I wake up and there feels like a mile of empty bed between us. Full size never really bothered me so maybe you want to take my opinion with a grain of salt, but I don't really see the need for a king.
But if you know for certain when you move you'll get a king no matter what, I would either wait the extra 2 years with your current bed or just deal with the cramped room. I don't think there is a resale market for mattresses although maybe you could use it in a guest room? And if you get a box spring, make sure it is split!

We were kind of in a similar situation- our previous apartment fit a queen much better but we wanted a king down the line. We opted to get a fairly cheap queen, which became a guest bed when we moved and is now our toddlers bed. Then when we moved we splurged on our tempurpedic king size bed and it is amazing. They come with a split box spring which will help with moving. And you could wait on a headboard and frame and just get the box spring and mattress for now. But if it's going to make the bedroom really tight and hard to walk in I'd get a cheaper queen and get the king later.

Currently, we're living in a tighter space on a double (full). But I'm definitely going to need more room. We've been toying with the idea of a King, but it will be tight squeeze into the bedroom and most of the other furniture will have to be removed. Our room is also an awkward shape, so there isn't many directions we can place the bed.

Plus, we will likely be moving in just under 2 years. Is the takedown and moving of a King sized bed a big hassle compared to a Queen?

Should be go right for the King now? Or should we get a Queen only for 2 years?

I don't think beds/mattresses have good resale value. And I'm also not 100% sure that a Queen is enough? It's only about 4 - 5 inches wider than the double we're on now.

Here is a picture of the rough layout of our master at the moment. (not exactly to measurement, but the scale is close enough. room isn't actually that long).
- we'll have two small side tables beside the bed
- baby's crib
- dresser (doubling as a chaning table)
- glider and ottoman
http://s32.postimg.org/cumabp9r9/layout.jpg

Like I said, tight.
