If you really want to keep breast feeding then I would stick with slow.

Plus at daycare it doesn't matter how long it takes. I liked knowing the for 30 minutes my baby was being held.

I had to FF for a few days on 2 separate occasions due to my LO battling Breast Milk Jaundice. The first time, she was only a couple of weeks old and I didn't know anything about slow-flow nipples or nipple confusion. She has had a great latch from Day 1, and once we were given the OK to revert back to EBF, she wouldn't latch or she'd only latch for a minute or so and then she'd fall off. She got lazy on the bottles because they just poured the milk in her mouth and I think she kind of forgot how to work for it. So we had a miserable few days while we did a BF "Boot Camp" where I eliminated all bottles (DH would feed her pumped milk before we figured out that she was going to have a serious problem getting back on the boob, so I had to take that away from him completely for a few days), and I pretty much kept her close to me, skin to skin, and constantly had a boob in her mouth to try to get her familiar with things again. I wasn't sure we were going to get back to it! But we did, and I learned a lesson!

Since then, I purchased slow flow bottles, and even though it can take a long time for her to finish them, and she falls asleep before she finishes, I really think it has helped her to maintain her "relationship" with the boob and not get confused. We had to go to EFF last week bc of her jaundice again, and so for 4 days she had nothing but bottles, and when I BF'd her for the first time after we were given the go-ahead, she was the same as always- a little pig on the boob!

It took my LO so long to drink 4 oz bottles...20 minutes?! It was frustrating but I stuck with slow flow for 5 months before we switched to a medium.

If you plan to continue the nursing relationship then I would definitely keep the slow flow nipple. Going faster could cause her to get lazy &/or frustrated at the breast refusing to nurse. Of course that doesn't happen ALL the time, its just a common warning for breastfeeding moms because it can. I'm sure once she gets more used to the idea of them she'll get more down to business like she does at the breast. :)

ETA: Using a faster flow nipple & faster eating can also attribute to over eating & that could put you in a bind supply wise especially if you're pumping "trying to keep up".

DD is almost 7 weeks old and I'm trying to get her to be better about taking a bottle so that she is prepped for daycare next month. Over the past week, she has been really stubborn about taking bottles and, when she finally does, it takes her 40 minutes to finish 3 oz. On the breast, she is done in 7-8 minutes. I was thinking that she might do better with a faster flow...that it may be more like what she's used to. But everything I've heard/read is that EBF babies should stay on the slow flow.

Am I better off trying to keep working with her on the bottle w/ the newborn flow?
