Thanks everyone! I kinda feel "bad" not setting up the nursery and getting everything ready. But I know it will be harder to do from here since I'll have to have everything shipped, risk it getting broken when it's shipped out and shipped back...And I also thought it might be better to have a little more stability, with the pack and play LO can stay their once the furniture is shipped and we can carry it with us to hotels, then finally get everything set up in the new place, rather than moving LO from PNP to crib to PNP to crib...

A bassinet might start getting somewhat tight by 6 months, so I may go with a PNP. Changing table/dresser wouldn't be necessary. You can totally throw a changing pad down on the bed or floor and change diapers that way.

So next question is what are the bare essentials? I have a chair I can breastfeed in. Should I get a bassinet or a pack and play, and that will be sufficient for LO for 6 months? (Wasn't sure if once they started getting bigger they'd start getting uncomftorable in that.) What about a dresser/changing table - necessary?

We moved when LJ was 4 months old. Until then she just slept in our room.

You definitely don't need a full on nursery so I would just wait. I had my LO sleeping in her own room almost from the start but all you would need is a crib (or someplace else to sleep) and chair (to breastfeed or bottle feed) in that room.

I would just set up what you need. Your lo will have no clue if there's cute pictures hung up or not. I would.get a crib or pack n play though. We had lo in a bassinet in our room for the first month and a half, but she got too big and we moved her to her crib.

I would use the bare minimum and wait to buy everything when you get home. I can't imagine having to set up, take apart, wait a couple of months for furniture to arrive, set up again. Yikes!
LOs are super low maintenance for the first 3-4 months of their lives. We have our almost 1 year old on a floor bed (mattress on the floor). Its been her bed since she was born. Get creative :)

So we're currently living overseas, and I'm trying to figure out the best plan for the baby's sleeping arrangements and was wondering if I could get some advice from some mommas who might have some suggestions.

We will be moving back stateside when the baby is about 6 months old, and due to military moving craziness will probably not see our furniture for 2-3 months.

I'm wondering if I should set up the full on nursery here, or wait until we go home.

I think I would like to have the baby in our room for a little while to help with breastfeeding. I'm not sure how long is typical to keep the baby in your room, 1 month? 3 months?

So would you recommend setting up a crib/nursery while overseas? If we do that we'd just have to rent a crib or use a pack and play or something while we wait for our furniture to come in. Or should we have the bare minimum here and then just set up the nursery as soon as we get home?

Thanks for the help!
