Have you done some serious spring cleaning? We moved last summer, and I was kicking myself when I realized I should have donated half of the books we moved!

We just moved last month (when LO was 6 months) and I totally agree on labeling *everything*. We labeled each box as the appropriate room, and also “box x of x” so that we knew we got everything once we got to our new house. We just put up post-its next to each room, so the mover’s knew which room was “bedroom 1”, “bedroom 2” etc.

Leave yourself more time than you think and hire movers for the actual move. If you can, move things on your own first like art, breakables, etc. so you know they make it to your new place in one piece. UHaul boxes are great quality for moving boxes. We just put clothes in bags, which were less bulky and easier to move than boxes.

I started with packing up all of our books, cds, dvds and everything in LO’s room that she wouldn’t absolutely need for the weeks before the move. Moving takes longer than you think it will, so give yourself plenty of time!

Keep a roll of toilet paper and cleaning supplies handy for immediate use at your new place. If you are moving on your own and renting a U-haul try getting the truck on a Saturday. You will pay for one day use, but likely will not to return it/ U-haul check in until Monday giving you two days to use the truck or at least not have to rush back to return.

@autumnlove: I know! We started looking for a house and TTC both in April. Thought the house would be a lot easier to find then making a baby. Not so much. My Mom keeps telling me it is a great time to move for me cause this way I don't have to do anything. I do think it will be easier to move now then waiting till after she gets here. I just have to be patient, and remember she won't care or know if her room isn't completely done when she gets here.

We just went into contract on the 31st, so fingers crossed the inspection goes good on Friday.
Good luck with your move!

@MamaMoose: I'm far from an expert, but I agree that labeling everything, really specifically, helps a lot. So not just "Kitchen", write, "bowls, plates, silverware, placemats". Start packing the things you don't need-- all summer clothes, the fancy dishes you never use, so those things are boxed up ahead of time. And make lots of lists.

Either way, I'm totally dreading moving in a few months, but I know it's going to be easier to move pregnant than with an infant, so we are doing it sooner than later.

We will be moving when I am 35 weeks. Not looking forward to it. I have a big family that I know will come and help but I am thinking about just sucking it up and spend the money on movers. I don't mind the packing or unpacking, but the actual moving is the pain in the rear to me.

I agree though label boxes as much as you can. And start packing as early as you can, cause it takes way longer then you think.

Oh my. I don't know. I'm thinking about hiring one of those companies who pack, move, and unpack for you when the time comes for us!!! Either that or just have a grandma come for a week so I can just concentrate on the move.

Organize and label label label! It makes unpacking soooo much easier when you know where to put the boxes without having to open them to check what's in there.

We are moving in a few weeks and I am pretty overwhelmed. Packing with a LO crawling around sounds like such a hassle. I guess I have to do a lot of it when she is at daycare!

Do you have any packing or moving tips? Where do you usually start?
