We moved LO to a twin at 2.5. It was a trainwreck. In all honesty I feel like we mover him from the crib to our bed. Not the plan!

We just moved LO out of a crib last weekend! She turned 3 in may. She went straight to a queen bed, because that is what we had extra! I bought a platform bed frame so it is lower for her, and she loves it! No issues so far (knock wood).

@arosebyany: Sounds like a happy medium between the two and a good transition start. :) It is definitely nice to be not kicked by kids while you sleep!

@Mrs. Goose: I think your probably right, I'm just waiting for me to be ready lol. I actually put up another post about putting him in his crib in our room because I can't take being kicked all night anymore. At the same time I'm not ready for him to be in his own room yet either. He did really well in the crib last night, so I may try 6 months of this and then reevaluate then.

He'll probably be ready whenever you're ready especially as he already sleeps in a big bed now, granted it's probably not on the edges because you guys are in there, but you guys can always just put a bed rail under the mattress if you're concerned. We switched our daughter to a quite high twin bed at 19 months to prep for the baby due in two months. It has gone really well now. We have the same set up as sweet caroline. It's the top bunk but just used as a twin, but we bought a huge mattress instead of a bunk bed one so the railing it has is not very effective. So far no roll outs though.

I see no reason why a queen bed would be any more of a challenge than a toddler bed, so I think the answer is you can move him whenever you're ready to. Just like with a toddler bed or twin bed, you probably want a safety rail or to put the mattress directly on the floor.

We had to move DD around 20 months because I couldn't stop her from crawling out of her crib. I used sleep sacks for awhile to deter her, but eventually even that wouldn't stop her and it became dangerous. She sleeps in a twin. It's a bunk bed, the top bunk but it's set up as a regular twin. We didn't assemble the bottom bunk, just the top bunk. It sets on the floor and has railings so it's perfect! Eventually we will assemble the bottom bunk.

We moved both of our kids from our beds to twin beds around 18 months. For the first we did a couple months of a mattress on the floor and then a pool noodle along the edge once it was elevated. The second kid is still in his floor bed at 21 months and will be until we get around to buying the actual bed. :silly:

Our oldest moved to a toddler bed at 2y3m. She moved to a full sized bed (no rails) at 3. Even at almost 6 she will still sometimes roll out, but she just gets right back in. She is a restless sleeper and rolls all over her bed and will often be sideways part of the night.

Our younger is still in her crib at 2y7m. I plan to move her to a toddler bed in the next two weeks.

We moved my son out of his crib and into a twin bed at about 2.5. I would have kept him in longer but we wanted to use the crib for the baby coming 6 months later and we wanted to allow plenty of time for that transition to happen and get settled before having the transition of the new sibling!

We converted his crib at 20 months from a crib to a toddler bed. Then about a month after that we converted it again to a full size bed. I think if the bed is low you can do it now.

We moved DS straight to a full size bed at around 2.5 years old (technically 33 months). He didn't skip a beat, although he has fallen out once before. I do think that it would be different if he wasn't sleeping independently prior.

DS1 loved his crib and never tried to climb out so we kept him there as long as possible. We moved him when he was almost 3.5 to a full size bed. It went very well and we didn't have any drama at bedtime (thank goodness).

Same as @Mrs. Toad: - we moved our son from his crib to a (full size) bed at 22 months. It was actually a lot smoother than I thought it would be - he might wake up a litttttle bit earlier in the morning than he used to, but he just climbs out of bed and reads books on the floor until we come get him.

We moved dd to a queen at 2.5. We put up those mesh rails but I don't think they were really necessary in such a big bed, just peace of mind for me for a while! She has a blanket and a pile of stuffed animals to make it cozy

We recently moved DS to a twin bed from a crib. He's nearly 2.5 and is potty trained. We first moved him to a mattress on the floor, and after a few months of that, we moved him into a bed frame. He's done great - can easily get in and out on his own, but knows (mostly) to stay in his bed at night. We also have a Hatch Baby Rest light that turns green in the mornings when it's ok for him to get out of bed, and that has helped, too! Good luck!

I'm sure this is a long way away for me, but I've been day dreaming recently. At what age would you put LO in a "big" bed(twin, full, queen). DS currently sleeps with us and has never slept in a crib. When I transition him to his own room, I would like for it to be at an age that I can safely put him in a queen size bed. Anyone done this?
