We moved at 15 months and again at 24 months. Both times we moved to different states so we didn't have a chance to visit our new house beforehand (both times we actually hadn't even seen it before we moved in). She honestly had no problems, and this last time that we moved she was very excited to unpack all of her toys. They had been in storage for a month, so that made it very fun for her!

We moved at 14 months so kind of / really different!! My LO tends to do better with big changes and not so good with small changes. We did make sure to set up his new room like his old room and he had no issues adjusting. It sounds like N is excited for the new house!

My twins had just turned two and my older son was a few months shy of three when we moved. We did have their furniture set up for them but we had them help with their pillow, blankets and snugly toys. The morning of the move we had them pack up their important things and out them in the car. Then we took them to the new house and let them bring them in. They loved being a part of the experience and they each got to bring their important things into the house.

I tried to think about how I feel during a move. There are some things I love that make my house my home. I always want to put my family pictures up because it makes the space feel like my home. It drives my husband crazy because they are not essential to setting up a household but they are important to me. I thought the same might be true for the kids. I wanted them to be a part of making their new house their home.

My LO was younger and only 13 months when we moved.... she cried a lot at bedtime the first week. No other issues!

Good luck!

@BoogieBea: @lamariniere: @Mrs. Yoyo: Thanks, ladies. I've heard horror stories from friends and it got me really worried. I'll try to incorporate a few more visits before our big move!

We moved just shy of 2 and visited the new place many times, which helped. Other than that, just keeping all routines as normal as possible. I was afraid he might flip and stop sleeping but TBH it was pretty seamless.

We move a lot, most recently, at the beginning of June! We also moved internationally twice, when DS was 14 months and 22 months. What works for us is making a big deal out of the new, new bedroom, new play area, new toilet to flush, etc. we get excited about it and it gets him excited. It sounds like your DD likes her comfort zone though. I would definitely set up her room as much as possible beforehand. Take her on a tour of the house as often as possible so she gets familiar with it before living there. And say bye bye to the old place when you leave. My son is still asking me if I have the keys to the old apartment, but I told him I gave them back and it isn't ours anymore.

We moved into a house when LO was 23 months. It was also one week after my second was born. We made his room look as close to his old room as possible which was pretty empty to begin with. We moved from an apartment to a house so perhaps the extra space distracted him from the fact that he was in a different setting. He adjusted pretty seamlessly to the move. My mom was also here to help out postpartum so he had her undivided attention which probably helped as well. Good luck with your move!

My 26 month old doesn't deal well with change. She was not happy when my in-laws came to stay with us for 10 days, especially since that was combined with DH and I coming and going with business trips.

She is aware that there is a "new house" and notices all the boxes around the house. We've visited the new house many times so as soon as we get there she will always say, "new house!"

If you moved into a new home with a toddler, did he/she have an adjustment period? Was there anything you did to make the transition seamless? We've already moved over and unpacked half of our things in the new home, and on the day of the big move (a weekday), i'm hoping to have DD's room completely ready before picking her up from daycare.
