Welcome to town! I'm on the west side, but my grandparents are down in Seabrook, so maybe we'll cross paths one day

Definitely get on finding an OB. It took me 6 doctors before I found one who would take me when I moved here in late 2014 at 33 weeks. I delivered at TX Children's, and while I didn't love it as much as everyone else seems to, it was certainly fine, and I did like the OB (even if I didn't know her particularly well after transferring). Feel free to PM me for her info if you need it.

My info on OBs and hospitals is a little outdated since my youngest is about to turn 5. Get ready for some hot and humid weather! :-)

Thanks for all the help everyone! We found an apartment in Clear Lake, and will be moving there in August. I'll be on the lookout for Houston meetups and hopefully meet you all there!

I'm surprised to find out that OBs fill up! We're still working out insurance stuff, but thanks for the heads up that I need to get working on that!

Welcome to TEXAS! I live on the other side of Houston so I don't know much about that area. I recommend League City and Clear Lake. Make sure you visit Kemah Boardwalk when you get a chance.

Hi! I also live in Houston, we have a really nice group of ladies living in this area :-) I'm more in the middle of the city, so I don't have a ton of general recommendations regarding the area you'll be living in. OB-wise, I'll be delivering at Texas Children's Pavilion for Women, which I love and I also loooove my OB (Dr. Timmins). It's a bit far for you, but maybe doable? My coworker recently had her baby at the Pavilion and she lives in Clear Lake, though it was a bit easier in terms of appointments because we work really nearby. I would say maybe make some calls now to find an OB because in my experience some can get "full" quickly. I switched doctors around 12 weeks because I wanted to deliver at the Pavilion and I had to contact quite a few. Some OBs weren't taking any more Aug. patients at that point. Good luck with the move!

ETA: I also moved from the NE about three years ago. It's definitely different here, but I love it so far! Summers are hot, but then winters are mild, so it's a tradeoff ;-)

I'm in Houston too, and sounds like you'll be down near Clear Lake/League City. Like @stillme: I'm more on the west side (and Houston is HUGE), so no tips for that area, but it is family friendly, so hope you like it!
Sounds like you and I are due around the same time, hope you can make it to future meet ups!

@MountainBaby: yay! Another Houston Bee!!! We have a good group of Bees here in Houston and try to meetup on a regular basis!

As for that area, you should connect with @T-Mom: as she lives down there.

I deliveres at Texas Childrens Pavilion for Women and loved it!! But that might be a bit far for you.

Best of luck and keep an eye out for a summer Houston Meet-up! We have been here since 2009 and really found a good group of people and places!!

I was in your boat a year and a half ago. I'm from the Boston area, and have lived up north my whole life. I had never even been to Texas before we moved to Houston! It's very different from the good ol northeast but there are some perks here: not having to dig out your car from the snow, incredible, diverse food, and easy on-ramps to highways (unlike so much of mass :silly: )

the food is probably my favorite part, I was pregnant last summer and that was my least favorite part. girl, humidity is not playing around here.

Welcome to Texas. I'm not in Houston either and my family is on the far north side, so not helpful. Good luck with the adjustment, it will be a pretty big change from what you know, but hopefully you like it.

Welcome! I live in Houston, but I live in the central-west part so I'm not that familiar with your area. However, I have friends and family in League City, Clear Lake, Pearland, and Missouri City if you need more information.

As far as hospitals, you can't beat the Medical Center. Friends have delivered at Texas Women's and the Texas Children's Hospital - Pavilion for Women.

The food is great, the weather is nuts, and the people are super friendly. I love it here. I'm happy to email if you have more questions!

Welcome to Texas!
I live in Dallas, so I can't really help. I think there is a pretty big Houston group here (much more so than than DFW area), so hopefully they will chime in.

We got the news we'll be moving to Houston this summer! I'm excited, but it's very different than what I'm used to in the northeast :) Any advice for a transplant? We will be living near NASA, so any info about Southeast Houston would be much appreciated!

I'll be 23 weeks pregnant when we move, so any recommendations for OBs / hospitals/ etc would be wonderful.

Thanks so much!
