We did this! Mine will be 25 months apart and we moved the older one to his big boy room at... 23 months? Or 22, maybe? However, he was not very attached to the nursery and didn't spend much time there (even sleeping he was mostly co-sleeping in our room until 18 months when we transitioned him to his own bed). We mostly play in the living room and his train table was already set up in the room that became his big boy room. When we moved his bed from the nursery to his new room he was excited to sleep in there and we haven't had any problems so far. I also don't expect the new baby to use the nursery much at all for a while since we've got a co-sleeper and bassinet, so that gives him even more time for settling into the big boy room before the baby is using the nursery.

Thanks, everybody, this is helpful . I guess as long as we give ourselves enough time if it doesn't go well we can move him back and redecorate a second time. We definitely have to get him out of the crib in the near-ish future because last night he got one foot up on the bar, and I don't want him to figure out the next step to freedom!

We moved DD1 When she was a little over 2 to her big girl room. She didn't want to sleep in her big bed but was happy when we moved the whole crib (which we had converted into a toddler bed) into her big girl room. After the baby arrived (at 2.5) we took her to target and she picked out decorations, pillows and sheets and she was all about giving up the crib and slept in her big girl bed 100%. When the crib reappeared for the baby She didn't even think twice. overall super smooth and much easier than we thought.

We're not expecting but I would probably do this if we were. I agree it depends on the child. I feel like my son would feel special getting a new big boy room. He seems to have a fondness for babies so he might like getting the crib ready for baby with some stuffed animals and blankets. Now I just need to convince my husband!

We didn't move LO, but we did switch all the furniture. LO got all the furniture from our guest room (Queen Bed, new dresser, etc) and all her furniture (crib, changing table, etc) went into the old guest room/new nursey for LO2. I was a little nervous about it, but LO barely reacted. She acknowledged that she has a big girl bed and baby brother is going to sleep in her crib, and that was the end of that.

I wouldn't' do it, but I think it really depends on the first child. My LO gets extremely attached to things. She got upset with we put up her crib in the babies room and she had been out of it for a year. She also got upset when I recovered the rocker/glider and moved it to the nursery. LO is also a 3 y/o girl and emotional.

I didn't move our daughter (22 months when baby came), since she was still happy in the crib. We just made our guest room the new baby's room.

Our plan is to move K into her big girl room in October (26 mos old) - I wouldnt be in such a hurry but we have two big transitions I'd like to happen before LO#2 arrives. Big Girl room and getting rid of the paci. I'd like to let her keep the pci while she adjusts to the big girl room...so Big Girl Room in October and Operation Paci in December...

We'll be moving LO 1 into a new room and using the nursery for LO 2. If we have another girl I likely won't change anything in the nursery!

Our now guest room is much bigger than the nursery so I'd rather my big girl have it, and we are making a big deal out of her getting a big girl room.

I haven't done that yet (my first LO is only 3 months old) but that is absolutely what I plan to do when we have our second child. I made one nursery and I intend to use the same nursery for all of our children and just move the kids to their "big kid room" before the new baby arrives.

We kept E in her original room and put T in another room. At 27 months, i was really worried she'd feel replaced/booted out, and she's gotten SUPER attached to her room lately, knows where everything is, etc, and i just...ugh. Got lazy. Didn't feel like messing with it. I didn't want to move all the clothes, toys, etc. I didn't even design T's nursery until I was 38 weeks pregnant, but now i LOVE it.

DS was also 26 months when DD was born. We chose to leave him in his room and create a new room for DD. DS has a tough time with transitions and really loves his room so this made the most sense for us. He's 3 now and actually still in his crib because he's not interested in a big boy bed just yet, so I'm glad we kept him in his room.

Do it! We moved Xander out of the nursery and into a big boy room when he was about 18 months (3 months before baby arrived) and he loved it! He took to his new room immediately and never looked back. When Logan arrived, the nursery immediately became "baby's room" and he was totally fine with it.

We moved when M was about 20 months. Now she's settled in her room and we're converting another bedroom into the new nursery. Before the baby gets here, we'll transition her to a bed and get her a better quality dresser so that he can use the crib, etc.

My son will be 26 months old when the new baby arrives, and we're trying to figure out what to do. I LOVE the nursery I did for him, and can't imagine doing another one I like as well. My husband suggested that we move my son to a "big kid room" a few months before the new baby arrives (probably we'll set it up about 3 months early and give him a few weeks to transition) and then Baby #2 can have the nursery. I love this idea but I'm worried that my son will feel like he's being evicted or replaced. What has everybody else done? Any tips/strategies?
