I had one 2-3 days postpartum (before my milk was really in) and wasn't told not to breastfeed my baby.

@Anutka: I had a CT with contrast and was told to pump and dump for 24 hours. I also has anesthesia that evening and was told to pump and dump for 48 hours. It affected my supply so severely that I couldn't BF anymore after just 3 months :(

I saw some well supported information on Kelly mom http://kellymom.com/bf/can-i-breastfeed/meds/radioisotopes/

Where 0.04% can get into breastmilk and of that 0.04% only 1-2% is absorbed by the baby.

I had a CT with contrast two months ago. The hospital said to pump and dump for 24-48 hours. I contacted my local LLL leader for more information and used their feedback to decide how to proceed. (I began nursing DD again about 22 hours afterwards and within an hour of hearing back.) Do you know what solution you were given? I was given ioversol, and have the relevant LactMed writeup if it would be helpful!

No personal experience, but Dr. Newman writes about it here:
http://www.nbci.ca/index.php?option=com_content&id=27%3Amyths-of-breastfeeding&Itemid=17&limitstart=3

He also posted this on his facebook page a while back:

"I've posted about CT scans and MRI scans before. Mothers do not have to interrupt breastfeeding after these scans, not even for a minute. But today, I happend to speak to a technician who does MRI scans in a large Toronto hospital. She admitted that:
1. She knows that mothers do not have to stop breastfeeding even for a minute.
2. The reason they tell mothers to interrupt breastfeeding is that the company's package says to stop for 24 hours and "everyone is covering their bottoms.
3. When I said that interrupting breastfeeding may result in permanent weaning of the baby sometimes and at least cause breastfeeding problems, she said she knew that.
4. Most surprising, she said that even though the company information says to stop breastfeeding for 24 hours, at this hospital they tell mothers to stop for 48 hours"

Has anyone had an MRI with contrast dye while breastfeeding? How long did you have to pump and dump?
