@photojane: I'm not a fan of mess either but I almost lost my mind with that ms. I took mine twice a day for first week and then was able to move down to once a day. After about 3w I was able to stop and only take it on the random days it hits me hard. Right now I never get ms but maybe every 15 days?

@photojane: My understanding is that unisom was initially developed as an anti nausea drug, but it made people so sleepy that they repackaged it and sold it as a sleep aid. My doc told me to take half a tablet of unisom every night with 50mg of B6. I'm not sure what it is about the combination that works, but it does. They don't work for me if taken separately. Since you only take half a tablet of the unisom as long as I took it before about 10pm I didn't have problems with being groggy the next day. The only hard part for me was it took a couple of days to adjust to falling asleep without the unisom once my morning sickness did pass.

@photojane: The first place I heard about it was this post by Mrs. Bee --> http://www.hellobee.com/2011/11/17/nausea-treatments/ Also, in the info packet my doctor gave me it listed unisom and b6 separately as nausea remedies. I did some googling and a lot of people seem to use them together with good results; I'm not sure what makes it effective but I think it's worth a try! This weekend I took it about an hour before bedtime and I felt a lot better than normal each day following. I didn't take it last night and am back to feeling all-day nauseous, so I'm thinking it helped. If nothing else, it's worth a try!

*ETA* I've never taken unisom before so I can't compare effects pre-pregnancy, but I didn't feel groggy all day afterward. I have been going to bed really early, so that probably helps.

@tororojo: @MamaMoose: i've never heard of people taking unisom for m/s. do you know why it works? i always feel groggy the next day when i've taken unisom in the past - does the B6 help with that?

My m/s lasted until 18 weeks (with the stomach flu thrown in at 15 weeks for good measure). Unisom + B6 was very helpful for me.

@photojane: I did in the beginning, but after a couple weeks I was able to cut back, I would only use it when I knew I would be getting physically ill, I didn't worry about feeling nauseous, unless we had something going on.

@jessiejo17: @TurtleDoves: do y'all have to take the zofran every day? i think it would really help, and my sil swears by it, but i'm just not a huge fan of medicine.

That's a bummer...hope you start feeling better soon and that it stays! I tried unisom+b6 for the second time this weekend (tried a couple of weeks ago and still woke up nauseous) and felt perfectly normal all day Saturday! I hung out with family then went to a wedding and danced til way past my normal bedtime! Maybe you could try that before bed tonight, and maybe you'll wake up tomorrow feeling great! Or I have heard great things about Zofran...

I got zofran too. My ms lasted until 22w. This would be our first and last child had I not found zofran....because some women's ms will last until birth and I didn't want to be in that category!

Mine stuck around until 15+ weeks, then I finally broke down and got a Rx for Zofran since I was losing too much weight (doctor's orders.) It was the greatest thing to ever happen to me, I could be a functioning human being again. I was getting sick all day every day, and this curbed it so much! It was really like night and day after I started to take it.

From weeks 9-11 I had m/s for two days and then none the next and then back again for a few days and then one good day. At 11 weeks it did go away and now at 16w I feel great all the time. Hopefully yours goes away for good soon!

i need to whine, and because my husband is sick of it, i'll do it here where y'all understand me...

i'm almost 12 weeks, and the last week has been great for me as far as the m/s goes. i was still feeling tired, but not sick. in fact, saturday my husband and i spent all day out and about, and i felt completely normal for once in the past two months. i was so excited that the sickness was finally going away as the 2nd trimester approached...

and then sunday rolled along. out of nowhere m/s came back with a vengeance. and, as you know, by m/s i mean all day sickness. sunday, monday, and today it's been worse than it was before! i feel so miserable. moving from sitting to standing triggers my gag reflex. awful.

did this happen to anyone else? did your m/s disappear to reappear a few days later? PLEASE tell me this isn't going to last the next 6 months!
