DS1 seemed to outgrow it pretty early and was having yogurt by 9 months and I was able to eat dairy before then. DS2 seems to be having a stronger reaction. He was fine when I ate soy a few weeks ago (had it a couple times and no noticeable reaction). I had dairy a couple days ago and he seems to be in some pain - crying out and will only sleep fitfully when being held. I also had some wheat so it may also be from that but in the past wheat just makes him spitty. I am going to ask doctor at 9 month appointment because I was hoping to at least start reintroducing everything back into my diet soon!

thanks so much for the responses! I'm really curious what the pediatrician will recommend. She is pretty chill so I am guessing "give it a try and see..." lol.

My DD wasn't officially MSPI but did have a dairy intolerance. I was able to eat butter and baked goods but I couldn't eat straight yogurt, cheese, or milk until she was around 11 months. She started eating yogurt a couple weeks later (and it's now her favorite food ever) and WCM/cheese around 13.5 months.

Following! We've had a setback with other intolerances (likely gluten), so I'm nervous to try. I am looking forward to cheese, though!

I am still BF so I tried it in my diet first, once a month or so. At 14 months I could start eating dairy and soy again but since then we keep testing the actual things and it's a no go. :( He can have half a teaspoon of pesto or the tiniest sliver of pizza and will "only" get congested. For soy he had a half a gluten free roll where soy was way near the bottom of the ingredient list so presumably a small amount and we had full on vomiting. For reference he is almost 2. So while you might be lucky and grow out of it quickly, this might be a way of life for a while still. Good luck!

I tried monthly starting at 9 months, but he didn't outgrow it until 13 or 14 months. We had several puking incidents :( It's no fun to try, but once they outgrow it, mealtimes are so much better!

At 9 months we tried introducing dairy. On a Saturday morning we gave her a few bites of yogurt. She was fine. Sunday morning we gave her a few more bites. Again a good day. But then Sunday night around 10 PM she woke up vomiting. :( I found around the 10 month mark though she could tolerate me eating a little dairy, and by 12 months I could eat cheese and stuff no problem. We kept finding reasons to put it off and didn't try and feed her dairy again until she was 2, but now she does just fine :)

I tried around 12 months (bad), and then not again until 18 months (still not great--a throw up, three diarrheas, and an eczema flare up later)and I'm considering just not ever giving it to her or asking for official allergy testing.

Following! DD is 10 months and I tried something small like a few bites of a baked good (for me) at 9 months and she still spit up a bit so I'm waiting until 12 mo this to try again. :(

We were seeing a pediatric GI who had us give yogurt at 11 months. She said the goal was for her to be able to have cake and ice cream for her first birthday  She tolerated yogurt and was able to transition from Nutramigen to WCM by 12 months.

ETA: the first time I gave her yogurt she had a massive diarrhea blowout (in the car, of course). I thought it meant she was still intolerant but the GI said it can take a little time to get used to it and to keep trying. She did fine after that.

My Dr said to try it at 6 months with me first (obviously, you can't do that) and then start with yogurt, cheese, then milk for her. I didn't give her straight milk though. I think I just did cooked milk. My Dr said that their digestive tract matures at 6 months and a lot of babies out grow it then. Mine did. :) But we also found out she was MSPI at 2 weeks old, so I'm not sure that made a difference.

If your baby was MSPI, when did you start trying out dairy and soy to see if your LO was still intolerant? And what sorts of things did you give them? When (if ever) did your LO seem to have grown out of their intolerances?

My LO is just about 9mo so I'm wondering if her doc will recommend we start trying some soy or dairy soon at her 9 mo appointment. She is formula fed so I can't introduce to my diet first.
