I live by MSPI Mom's quick start recipes.
Bought a bread maker and make my own white bread.
Make her brownie recipe for my chocolate fix. http://www.mspimama.com/2011/10/all-new-mspi-mama-and-brownie-too.html?m=1
Break n bake sugar cookies are dairy and soy free (the seasonal themed ones).
McCormick's had a crock pot fiesta chicken spice pack and recipe that is dairy & soy free. I like that you just throw in raw chicken (so minimal prep time) and then I portion it into 2-3 servings and freeze it. Eat it with tortilla chips (have to read the label to avoid veg oil) and avocado.
Bacon and fried egg for breakfast :)

@yin: no! I heard about it, but none of my local stores carry it. I found a vegan brand that was also soy free, but honestly...it's tasteless so I don't use it. I just slather on the mustard now so my bread isn't dry.

I hardly eat sandwhiches these days since it's hard to find lunch meat that is casein free (well, not hard to find but it's expensive) and hard to find sandwhich bread that is dairy/soy free so I don't miss mayo that much.

@Anagram: Have you tried Earth Balance mayo? It's vegan and soy free. I use it for DS1 due to his egg allergy, and it tastes very much like regular mayo. Okay honestly I haven't had real mayo in the house in ages, but it tastes great.

I'll add in Chipotle! Their menu changed recently, and I can eat practically everything they offer (minus two items due to wheat since I'm also eliminating gluten). Yay to no soy!

@Anagram: Yeah, I think the bread I was looking at DID have soy (or soy lechitin or something like that), so having to avoid both would be hard!!! Luckily, I think I JUST have to avoid dairy! Although it'd be so nice if I didn't have to avoid anything, haha. Such a simpler life... :D

@Adira: yay! That's awesome. it's hard for me, since I can't eat dairy OR soy and usually bread will have one or the other, but if it's only dairy or only soy a person has to avoid, it's so much easier!

@Anagram: I don't THINK it has dairy... I'll have to recheck, but the last time I looked, I think it was dairy free. But I don't know about the soy part... my friends are lactose intolerant, so I think they can have soy.

And I am planning on having fruits and veggies and chips & salsa, so hopefully it'll work out! Thanks for your help! :D

Also, I stopped by my bakery section over the weekend while I was shopping and checked out their breads and as far as I could tell, they were dairy free! I even pulled out my "may contain milk cheat sheet" to compare ingredients, so I THINK I'll be able to provide dairy-free bread at least!

@Adira: they are probably used to not having tons of food at parties (I know I am!) and most breads have dairy anyway. You can always have lots of hummus and pita chips and carrot sticks, etc. And chips and salsa. heh.

@Adira: I think I originally read it on Kelly mom and then confirmed by reading labels. Even if it is dairy/soy free you run the risk of cross contamination because they cut all the meat on the same slicer. My LO could never tolerate even tiny amounts of any dairy/soy so I just stayed away from the deli meats all together.

@Adira: you have to ask to make sure there's no casein or whey. There are a few brands, but your deli should be able to look. Applegate farms has soem organic, casein free turkey but it's a particular one--not all of their are dairy free.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: I've heard that too, and tried it. I also heard the same thing about the lecithin. I've found that soy oil doesn't bother my LO in small quantities (like, if I eat something with it once). But if I eat it several times in a row, her poops get reallly green and mucousy and she starts refusing bottles.

So I think it depends on how bad the intolerance is.

Okay here is a question relating to soy oil:

I've read that when an infant is allergic to soy, he is actually intolerant of the soy protein. And when soybeans are made into oil (vegetable oil/soy oil), all the protein is pressed out and the oil is no longer an allergen. Therefore, soy oil is okay on an MSPI diet. Has anyone else heard this??

A lot of the "natural" peanut butters are okay (of course, check ingredients). Regular PB has soy. Same with popcorn...if you can find it, the "natural" ones are usually soy free (and made with palm oil instead).

And finally, the ubiquitous (in MSPI circles) red tub of earth balance.

I'm posting slowly when I get a chance throughout the day:

Use Canola oil, walnut oil, coconut oil (I personally don't use coconut oil, since it's a saturated fat) in place of vegetable oil when baking.

Trader Joe's: Somehow, they make several products with canola or sunflower or safflower or palm oil, which is awesome for people avoiding vegetable/soy oil! Some of the products there that are amazingly dairy and soy free (last I checked, that is) are:

Here is what I’ve learned so far:

READ EVERY LABEL EVERY TIME. Brands change their ingredients so something that was safe a month ago, may not be now.

Dairy comes in a ton of different forms milk, butter, cream, whey, malt, casein and lactate.

If you’re thinking about birth control make sure that the pills don’t have any lactate in them! I was taking the mini pill and G had blood in his stool from it!

Deli meats are a huge hidden dairy source. I basically avoid them all together and eat left over dinner for lunch. Ham is tough - some brands cure with casein/lactate and others don't

Most bread has dairy/soy Whole Foods Brand Organic is safe but always read the label. Most bagels are ok too. Malted Barley is OK - it is not malted milk. Whole foods challah bread is safe and great for French toast.

Supplements are tough because alot of them contain soy. Basically if it is in a capsule or gummy it is off limits. CVS brand prenatal are safe. I am taking Nature Made brand right now and those are OK too. I also take a calcium supplement on the advice of the nutritionist I saw. I take the Rainbow Light Allergen SafeGuard Calcium Citrate MiniTabs - 4 a day. The Allergen SafeGuard is key because they sell a regular version that does contain soy.

List of hidden dairy:

Also, in most things I've made, if I am only making one or two switches (earth balance for butter/coconut milk for milk) the recipe comes out the same and people don't even know the difference.

We sill go out to eat at least once a week and everyone is really great about it. Some places are better than others but I've found that if I get a steak and veg I am usually happy.

I did see a nutritionist a few times but I didn't find it that helpful.

Coffee creamers:

I LOVE the So Delicious coffee creamers (and their ice cream) http://sodeliciousdairyfree.com/products

For cereal, I prefer Almond milk--there are store brands and brands like Silk. You may want to look for the brands that don't have carageenan as an ingredient, as there is recent news that it may be cancer causing. I also like the Silk Lite vanilla as a coffee creamer.

You can also try Rice milk and Coconut milk, just check ingredients for soy lecithin. I've seen a few brands of rice milk that have soy. And coconut milk has a stronger flavor (to me), so I don't like it as much in cereal. I've made pancakes with it before though, and they were tasty with a slight coconut flavor.

Bread---most store bought breads are out, but a lot of gluten free breads are also soy/dairy free AND strangely, a lot of the store french breads that are sold hot (up in the bakery section, not in the bread aisle) will be dairy and soy free.

I buy Rudi's sometimes (not as good as "real" bread, but will do in a pinch). Also, the fresh french breads and italian breads in the bakery section in the baquette bags are usually dairya nd soy free because they aren't made to have a long shelf life. Just read labels, because I've found that Walmart breads still have soy.

For all the MSPI, dairy free, soy free mamas, past and present: Let's make this thread a place that future MSPI moms can refer to for information on safe foods, trusted recipes, restaurant choices, etc. Then, maybe we can get it stickied.

Also, post link or pictures! It makes it so much easier to find a product when you know what you are looking for.
