@MommySLP: Oh, I totally get it. I ended up donating about 700 oz (I actually didn't count it, so that's a guesstimate) because I knew LO wouldn't be able to drink it. =(

It hurts to see all that hard work go to someone else, but I was glad I could give it to someone who needed it.

@Anagram: you are amazing! Thank you soooo much! That information is so, so helpful. It all seems so overwhelming, especially with having a 2 year old at home and I go back to work in 2 weeks! The thing I'm most bummed about is my freezer stash of milk!

Yup, we ended up doing a total elimination diet for our MSPI baby. He is an anomaly and is still reactive to soy but not milk at almost 3 years old.

There is a lot of food you can eat, BUT weird things like bread were hard to find without milk or soy.

More copy-pasting:

You can go back and see that I posted a few months back, freaking out about what I would eat after my LO's MSPI diet. I got some not so helpful (for me, personally) advice like...oh, you can snack on nuts and eat a lot of salads and home make everything which sounded completely overwhelming for me at the time, since I was soon-to-be back at work, ravenous from pumping 45-50 oz a day, and just knew I wasn't going to have time to make everything from scratch and was going to be starving all the time.

BUT---good news! As it turns out, there are TONS of foods (yes, even processed foods) you can buy and eat when you don't have time to make something.

Of course, there are always the healthy options--you can eat any fruit, vegetable or meat (if it's fresh, you cook it yourself, or it's frozen and not in a sauce or something).

Bread---most store bought breads are out, but a lot of gluten free breads are also soy/dairy free AND strangely, a lot of the store french breads that are sold hot (up in the bakery section, not in the bread aisle) will be dairy and soy free.

Most hummus and pita CHIPS brands are dairy/soy free. Some pita breads have soy, you have to read labels. I eat hummus constantly now.

Trader Joe's is a godsend. TONS of their stuff is made with Canola oil instead of vegetable oil (which is made from soy). Any time I need a snack food/junk food fix, I go to Trader Joe's. You can get Spekuloos (spelling) cookies, or the ginger-molasses cookies, and even their cinnamon rolls in a can--ALL dairy and soy free and TJs is the only place I can find that stuff.

Skinny Pop and Trader Joe's Kettle corn are both dairy and soy free (a lot of other popcorns are made with veg oil).

The Simply Smart chicken fingers and nuggets line by Purdue is dairy and soy free. I mean, it's totally junk food...but sometimes you want junk food! https://www.perdue.com/products/simplysmart/

As a butter substitute, there's Earth balance brand "butter" that is in the red tub that is also soy free.

Sub almond milk (I like vanilla, unsweetened) for regular milk in cereals.

Cereals: Read labels. I've been surprised at what has soy or dairy and what doesn't. Shredded mini wheats, Life cereal, all the Chex cereals, Bear Naked granola and a lot more are dairy and soy free.

Coffee: if you drink coffee, you can substitute sweetened vanilla almond milk or the SoBee coconut milk creamers are really good in coffee. Sadly, Starbucks and DD have no dairy and soy free versions unless you like your coffee black.

You can cook/bake all kinds of things at home by substituting coconut milk or almond milk for the dairy.

If you ever need an ice cream or frozen treat fix, the Sobee brand of coconut milk "ice cream" is really good. I can find it almost anywhere around my town, but Whole Foods has it.

We should really all start an MSPI food info thread, because I have so many other go-to foods that I just can't think of off the top of my head.

Hope some of this helps! It sometimes seems like you can't eat ANYTHING at first, but there's actually a lot you can eat.

@MommySLP: Okay, my LO started having muscousy green poops at 2 months and at 3 months, it progressed to blood in the stool. I eliminated dairy and soy 100% and then over time tried various forms of soy and then things like baked dairy (it's more tolerable for some babies) to see what my LO reacted to. Turns out, she's pretty darn sensitive to everything, which sucks for me.

To start, Eliminate both dairy AND soy 100%, even lecithin and soy oil (vegetable oil). After you've eliminated both dairy and soy for 2 weeks, you can try products with soy oil for a couple days then soy lecithin for a few days and see if you notice a reaction, because a lot of MSPI babies don't react to these. If your LO tolerated these, you can try full on soy (my doctor suggested a real soy source, like soy milk) and see if there's a reaction. If not, then your LO might just be intolerant to dairy. If so, then you know what LO is intolerant to.

I EBF my two month old and we've had no problems. Then all of a sudden the last two nights he has had a diaper of very green, mucousy poop. Tonight it looked like there was a few specks of bright red blood. I of course started googling (ahh!) and it seems to mostly likely be a dairy sensitivity. I've never even heard of MSPI until reading on hellobee. The thing is he has no other symptoms of it. He is an awesome sleeper, never spits up and hardly ever fusses. And he has had no problems until now.

I'll call the ped in the morning but ease my mind for now! Also, if I do need to go dairy free, is there a resource you like that outlines hidden ingredients to avoid?

Thank you!!!
