@LittleGBee: Just dairy and soy, but the soy has to be 100%....no lecithin or oil sadly. I have wondered if she might have other allergies, but I never did an elimination diet since her stool test turned up negative for blood after just a week on the MSPI diet.

She had a bloody diaper occurrence once when I ate vegetable oil 2-3 times in a row (take out food and leftovers) and then a really bad bloody diaper just recently when her Ped suggested I try Alimentum formula when I discussed switching to formula. Obviously, she didn't respond well to it.

@LittleGBee: Thank you, I hope your baby starts to feel better soon too! I think my pedi just has a sense of how common each of the different food sensitivities are and wants me to go down the list. She mentioned that she's spoken with a GI doc about these things as well. I think my food diary has been helpful though because my pedi would have had me take out dairy and eggs first but keep soy oil and lecithin in my diet, even though I'm pretty sure that my baby reacts to soy oil and lecithin and not eggs. So you should definitely trust your own gut when it comes to these things too, since you're the one who sees your baby day in and out. Good luck!

@LittleGBee: I'm so glad that my posts have been helpful!

And I know what you mean about not quite feeling in control. It's tough. It probably sounds crazy now, but now that it's been almost a year since discovering her MSPI, in some ways I'm grateful for it! It's forced me to eat healthy, we're cooking more, eating out less...it's really been great.

I hope your little guy feels better soon, that cutting out dairy and soy goes smoothly, and that he outgrows it with time.

@yin: Sorry you're going through this also. Thanks for sharing your experience! Do you have any favorite recipes to share? Corn is next to go on my list, unfortunately. But it's such an undertaking that I'm going to wait a couple of weeks and see.

@Mrs. Deer: Thanks for the encouragement. I've read and re-read your blog post often, and it was wonderful to have read it prior to our hospitalizations. For whatever reason, MSPI kept popping up in my mind, and it's because of your post.

@catlady: I have been keeping a food diary. Hopefully it will give whoever wants to look at it a sense of where I can go from here. Does your pedi have a list she's going down with the sensitivities or is it her best guess? (Aside from the 8 most common) I hope your baby girl starts feeling completely better soon.

@Anagram: Oh man, I'm sorry the feeding issues seem to be continuing. What did you have to eliminate?

I'm thankful that my LO is gaining weight and eating relatively well, but I hate seeing him writhe in pain before he poops. I'd also love for a longer than two hour sleep stretch because I'm going insane. Seems like I'll know if we're on the right track in 2 to 3 weeks though.
After two hospitalizations for digested blood in his poop and a scope that yielded nothing, I'm thankful to have something within my control...and yet, it doesn't feel like I'm in control at all.

@LittleGBee: I saw an improvement within 2-3 days. No blood at that point after 1 week. My LO never had the "behavioral" signs, because she just isn't much of a crier in general. But she has completely liquid dark green poops, bloody poops, and then just wouldn't eat. We had to feed her asleep and trick her into eating and still she had days where she only took in 12 oz. It was a stressful time..

Within about 3 days she started eating more. It took about a month of 100% clean eating before she was eating a good amount (higher end of the spectrum). She still to this day has feeding issues that I think resulted from the eating = pain association.

We have an appt with a GI specialist soon and a referral for a feeding therapist. Good luck!

I know exactly how you feel. Have you been keeping a food diary? It could be that there are more foods you need to eliminate, or it could be too soon (day 5 is pretty soon). We are still trying to get our girl down to baseline but she's doing much better so these days if I accidentally eat something she's sensitive to, it usually only takes about a week for her to seem normal again. When she was worse, it would take several weeks for her to look good. That being said, the last time we tested a stool, it looked normal but came back positive for blood so we're still not even there yet. :(

I'm currently avoiding milk, soy, tree nuts, peanuts, corn, and chickpeas. Our pedi wants us to wait another couple weeks and if it comes back positive again, she wants me to eliminate eggs too.

Going through this right now, and it's tough. I've eliminated dairy, soy, eggs, and wheat. LO is better (less fussy, less spit up, and longer stretches of sleep at night) but still has blood in his stool. His poop is usually yellow but sometimes goes back to green. I'm stumped. :( His pediatrician said one of her patients had a sensitivity to beef. I tested it and that night he had blood in his stool. I'm thinking corn might be my next food to eliminate. It's tough. Hang in there.

@locavore_mama: @brownie: Thanks ladies. I didn't know what to expect, so it helps to know that it shouldn't be looking better already.

I went in to the GI specialist to test the poop and it came out positive for blood, but I never spoke to the specialist directly. The doctor I spoke to just told me it was positive, said it was MSPI, told me to put him on formula for three days, and take soy out of my diet. Other than that, no support.

Our pediatrician had to look up what MSPI is, so she's not particularly helpful, but she IS supporting me in continued breastfeeding by sending me to a lactation consultant. Our appointment with a naturopath isn't until Thursday. She's familiar with MSPI, but I've just been holding tight hoping that I'm doing enough.

MSPI Mamas, how long was it from diagnosis to the first sign of your LO feeling better? We're on day 5 post diagnosis, and day 5 of no soy or eggs, week 3 of no dairy, and I've been off gluten for years now.

Am I expecting too much too soon? He's still super uncomfortable and his poops look the same as before. He's still waking up every two hours. His eczema looks worse than before, and I'm just second guessing myself on not giving him the super hypo-allergenic formula and pumping until the stuff that's irritating his gut is out of my milk.

It's super hard to watch my little guy in pain knowing that something I'm eating is causing it. :(
