@coacheswife123: My doc said generally we'd see a reaction w/in 48 hours to introducing it - I'm not sure about eczema though

@coacheswife123: gotcha! Then I would watch the eczema while you eat them and maybe add another source of soy and see if it worsens or other symptoms develop. I always liked to trial foods in their most purist/simplest form so maybe try soy milk if you can drink it? I know! Wish there was a test! Thank you!! He is doing much better!

@coacheswife123: I think @winniebee: 's GI specialist told her if there's no reaction in 48 hours then they're cleared. I used that rule of thumb when reintroducing dairy into my system as well.

GL!

@coacheswife123: has the weather changed recently too? We get eczema flares sometimes from things like weather change and the not lotioning enough like you mentioned. Eczema is tricky for us since we see it cause be things other than just food, so unless it is really bad or more than a few small patches we tend to just watch it and see if other symptoms develop (he's a delayed reactor). If it doesn't improve say after lotioning (if we think that is the cause) and no other symptoms developed then we look at the food. <--- clear as mud right?

There is a 50/50 chance LO couldn't tolerate soy, so he may be fine with it! Are you trailing it now and continuing to eat soy products or were you just concerned about the meal you had the other night and continuing to avoid?

Thanks ladies ! Ok haven't had anything except a few Oreos. His dipes have been fine and not fussy or gassy . This morning his eczema is a little flared on his cheek. This could be from my husband not lotioning him as often though. What do we think ? Reacting or an unrelated eczema flare up ?

@Mrs. Jacks: Rashes are so tricky!

@coacheswife123: Fever! With what happened this week that is definitely a new symptom for us to look out for! I think I got all the symptoms we look for down, but honestly anything that is out of the ordinary during an active food trial gets written in the food journal....Are you keeping a food journal? It doesn't have to be anything fancy, but when you eat a new or suspected food write down the date and time and then just keep track of anything you think might be important during the trial.

Our FPIES reactions were usually 4-48 hours post ingestion depending on how strong of a trigger it was and how delayed he reacted to that particular food. I would say most reactions via my milk were within 24 hours.

The things we looked for were projectile vomiting, mucous in stools, blood in stools, diarrhea, stomach pain, increased reflux, sleep disturbances, eczema flares, rashes, lethargy, and any overall change in demeanor that was abnormal we also took into consideration.

@Mrs. Jacks: do you think that there would be occult blood in the stool even if you couldn't see any? I've been wondering about this as we're working on solids and stole some guaiac tests from work hoping that might help me tell.

I usually could tell within 12 hours. If the reaction was mild, it would be mucus in the diap and fussiness and a bad reaction would be blood in the poop.

Also ... What should I be looking for in terms of reaction. When we determined he was having an issue he was very very gassy and eventually had a small bit of blood. When I say he is normal he isn't fussy or gassy. Anything else I should keep an eye out for or maybe we are in the clear with soy ?

I cut dairy and soy 2 months ago. Yesterday around lunch I ha a few Oreos (soy) and we went out to dinner. I made sure there was no dairy in my meal but no idea about soy.

How long would it take to know if LO is reacting. He seems totally fine. Hoping I can add soy back in ! I'm not even sure if he was ever reacting to it but eliminated just in case.
