@Mrs. Microscope LO has awful reflux, we saw the ped GI this morning and he brought up possible MSPI as well... LO is having occasional green poops and they are getting more mucusy. The dr is going to see us back in 2 wks. I am cutting out dairy, for now. He does the grunting/fussing/straining with pooping sometimes.

@NurseDMB: I am on mspi diet day 2... I know not to expect results for at least 2 weeks! Her pediatrician said to cut dairy only for 1 week, but I don't think it's enough, so I'm going full mspi, and going to give it a month. With check ins at the pediatricians, of course!

So confused as to the suddenness of the symptoms. Literally overnight! I guess she has had some light baby acne for the last 2 weeks, but I thought that was normal for a newborn. Fingers crossed we figure this out!

@Mrs. Microscope: if you're seeing blood and mucus in the stool, then it's definitely from an allergy. I would cut out dairy and soy and see if it makes a difference - a lot of babies don't have the traditional symptoms such as fussiness and reflux.

Mucus in stool, frequent runny/loose stool that was green in color

Constant vomiting up milk - not like regular baby spit up, but projectile vomiting. At one point he had a small amount of brown blood in the vomit, I'm assuming because his esophagus was so irritated from the constant throwing up :(

Eczema

Very slow weight gain

Dry coughing, stuffy nose, and a TON of hiccups- not sure if that was related or not, but he also had reflux.

He is 2 now and does ok with products with dairy in it now in small amounts. He still drinks almond milk, though. He now gets pretty bad environmental/outside allergies, but that runs on both sides of our families.

@Mrs. Microscope: this wasn't us, but my kiddo didn't have all the traditional symptoms, either. So I think everyone exhibits them differently. Do you think you will try the MSPI route?

Bump. Lo at 5 weeks has mucous diapers, olive green poop and red blood spots in poop... Sleeps is great, no spit up, no crying spells, no diaper rash, eats like a champ. Just poop issues the last day or so. Her pediatrician says to cut dairy and soy and see if it fixes the problem.

Any other mspi kiddos with only poop symptoms? No crying and no reflux?

Crying alot, didn't nap well, but the main way we knew was her poops went from normal to green to mucous-y to speckled with blood. She also got rashes but I'm not convinced those were related.

At 8 weeks, it was like a switch flipped. She was super, super miserable, and she cried for at least 3 hours a day. This lasted for about 3 weeks. She was also very gassy and had mucous in her diapers. And she had been a projectile spittwr all over everything, everywhere, every time she ate. Oddly, though, the thing that pushed me over the edge and convinced me that we were dealing with an intolerance was a stuffy nose that wouldn't quit. I had read somewhere that it could be a sign of intolerance, and for us, it was.

DS didn't have the normal symptoms which made it harder to figure out / took us longer - he did excessively puke but his main thing was ridiculous constipation, to the point where I was literally digging poop out of his butt while he screamed! We tried soy and that didn't help, then Nutramigen and within 24 hours of being on that he was pooping like normal. His spit up never stopped though.

Terrible colic symptoms. Cried all day long. Hardly ever slept during the day. Didn't have (visible) blood in stool until we switched to formula.

My LO did not have traditional symptoms, which took us a bit to diagnose (no excessive puking, no blood in stool that was visible). She just started refusing to eat. Like-- at all ever. It got so bad that we could only feed her when she was asleep and we could do a "dream feed." The doc thought that the dairy/soy was hurting her stomach and that made her just not want to eat even when she was hungry. Once we switched her to nutramigen for supplementing and I went on an MSPI diet she started eating awake in 4 days.
