Until my son started daycare, since I was breastfeeding him I figured the bm would make up for any deficiencies in his solids intake. Once he started daycare (at roughly 20 months), I would mix Rainbow Light NutriStart Multivitamin powder into his soymilk that he'd take to school. They come in pre-measured packets and are supposedly made from whole food sources. As a kid's multivitamin, it is pretty comprehensive compared to many of the generic brands. Rainbow Light seems to be a pretty popular and well-respected brand; I have no complaints. I get it from Amazon.com or iHerb.com (check prices - some places are double the price there!).

I took Flinstones vitamins as a kid and I loved them. I'm not sure if I really needed them or not though because I wasn't a picky eater. I loved the vitamins because they reminded me of candy.

At DD #1's 2-year-old visit, her ped said a multivitamin was a good idea since she was a picky eater. We use Nature Plus Animal Parade. I get it at Fairway. DD loooves them. They're a treat to her!

For those that do give the vitamins, was the decision based on anything (pediatrician rec, LO's comparative weight/height averages, personal conviction etc.)? I'm in the same boat as @Mrs. Bee... considering it for Rob Jr., but want to know how other parents decided...

My daughter eats a nice variety of foods; but I still like to ensure that she's getting all the vitamins she needs so we give her a Disney Princess Gummy after her dinner time. (We keep them up high in a cabinet away from her and she sees it as a special after-dinner treat, lol).

I think it depends on their diet. If I am able to get my kids to eat a balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruit and veg I wont give them vitamins because natural vitamins are always better than sythetic pills or gummies.
When I was a kid I somtimes had to take fish oil supplements or vitamin C supplements but it was always for a short period because my parents preferred for me to get vitamins right from the source
